Maybe there is a god...Liriano coming back?

From Rotoworld tonight:

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that there are "strong indications" that Livan Hernandez will be let to go open up a spot in Minnesota's rotation for Francisco Liriano.

Common sense prevails. Time will tell if waiting the extra month wiil end up costing the Twins a spot in the postseason.

All you Livan Hernandez owners out there, please remember that there is no crying in baseball.

Well that was what they posted an hour ago. Looks like they changed it to this:

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that there are "indications" the Twins want Francisco Liriano promoted "ASAP."

Perhaps the booing of Livan Hernandez during last night's loss to the White Sox was enough to get the wheels spinning. Liriano is 9-0 with a 2.51 ERA and a 73/9 K/BB ratio in his last ten starts. His last start was Sunday, so he could be squeezed into the rotation as soon as this weekend if the Twins don't make a move at the deadline.

liriano is supposed to pitch 2nite in AAA, so it will be easy to tell if he's getting called up this weekend.

"No, no. No bullpen," Gardenhire said. "He's out 16, 17 months, then you start questioning whether he can rebound, get loose two or three times in three days. That isn't right. He's a starter."

I hope he returns to his old form.

Pitch good, get your confidence back! LIRIANO! my fantasy season is riding on you!

Did anyone start him this week? I did.

If the twins missed the playoffs by a couple games! I would hate to be the guy who waited so long to bring him up!

Livan????come one, he has been done for years. He can eat up innings...should have been in the pen the last 3 weeks.

What is the over/under for inning pitched for the year 170, 180, 190.....he has only 40 or 50 innings left in his arm. They better be good ones!!

Rotoworld

Twins recalled LHP Francisco Liriano from Triple-A Rochester.

Liriano finally returns to the majors after allowing a total of five earned runs in his final six starts for Rochester. He's likely to start Monday's game against the Mariners, so he should be worth using in all formats right away.

Too many of you are looking at Liriano as a savior, I am afraid you are going to be disappointed. He will be OK but he is no where near the pitcher he was prior to his last injury and you should not expect those kind of performances from him this year. I would be particularly concerned about his first start since he is so anxious to show Minnesota management that he belongs in the bigs and that they made a mistake keeping him in AAA so long. He was doing well at Rochester but most everyone will tell you that league is very weak from a hitting perspective this year and that he was not as dominant as his record may indicate. Being a Twins fan I hope I am wrong but I don't think so.

I don't think anyone thinks liriano will be a savior. Not sure where u are getting that from?

I think what u see is "relief" from his owners in that they've been holding him all year long and now he's finally up.

I'm expecting a sub 1.3 whip, sub 4.00 era, and about 8K's per 9 inn. Does that meet your approval?

i agree with gekko!!! i am not thinking i am going to win it now because of his next 50-80 ip but i had him in my lineup early in the year and he was horrible. i have been holding him for months while he has been mowing them down in AAA and he is just what my team needs and where i can make up some points in my division. he is better than brian moehler right?? the way i look at it lets right the early season wrong(s)!!

I agree with Gordon and Rick - I don't think of Liriano as a savior, but we've held onto him all year, he's healthy, and he's certainly better than most pitchers.

I think Gordon was a little conservative in his estimate, but not much....I see an ERA around 3.5, WHIP under 1.25, and closer to 9Ks/9IP, but either way, we're not talking savior material here.

Plymouth, I can assume by your comments that you do not own Liriano on any of your teams. He is walk rate is finally down and he is hitting 95 again on the gun consistently so there is no reason to think he wont contribute positively the rest of the way.

No, I do not own Liriano on any of my teams, I just thought he was too over rated at the drafts considering what he was coming back from. He had a great 1/2 season for Minnesota a few years back but I don't see him regaining that form and when you look at his injury history, there is good reason to be cautious.

Having said that I would not mind having him on my team at all. I think that GG estimate is probably about what Liriano will do but I am not too sure that he will deliver as many KO's as everyone thinks he will.

We will see what he can do starting Sunday against a poor Cleveland team. As I said earlier, the better he pitches the happier I will be but I guess I need to see it to believe it. I will be at the Dome on Sunday to get a look for myself. Good luck to all you Liriano owners.
