It takes a good team to finish first as the weekly winner in the NFBC. It takes a great team to do it twice.

Maurice Gregory’s Slippery When Wet team certainly proved it was deserving of being called great last week. Gregory’s team in Las Vegas League 6 topped the NFBC field for the second time this season, finishing with 3,259 points.

Big weeks from Aubrey Huff (.500-2-9), Ryan Doumit (.500-0-4), Garret Anderson (.452-2-8) and Nick Markakis (.375) led the way offensively. A.J. Burnett and C.C. Sabathia combined for three wins and 26 strikeouts while Brian Wilson and Carlos Marmol combined for five saves to lead the pitching staff.

“It was a total team effort for Week 18,” Maurice said. “We had balanced pitching and hitting. Our free-agent pickup, Garrett Anderson, has done great since we picked him up a few weeks ago. Ben Francisco and Ryan Doumit led the offense and Chamberlain, Burnett and C.C. led our starting pitching and we also got a big week from our closer's Wilson and Marmol. Aubrey Huff also had a big week. Huff has been the most underrated player in the league in my opinion.”

“My 3-year-old loved his first Atlanta Braves Jersey for the first time we won a few weeks ago,” Maurice said. “Also I would like to thank Las Vegas League 6, for being such a competitive league and for having a very active message board (with Welcome to Stevieland being our comedian-he's really a funny dude). We've had a blast, and we just want too stay close to the top where anything can happen, and maybe even luck up and finish in the Top 10 overall.”
