Just Thoughts!

Post by Edwards Kings » Thu Sep 25, 2008 1:16 am

Each year, some folks on this board like to stir the pot about how easy it must be to win the NFBC or at least an individual league if one were to only travel down Florida way. Certainly I have never heard anyone who actually took the trip down South say that and in no way do I cast aspersions on any of the other cities, having drafted in two of them myself. But with all this talk about how tight some of the leagues are, I wanted to look at the average first place score, average second place score and the difference between the two for collective leagues in each of the four cities.

Orlando - The average first place score as of today is 117.7 with the average second place score being 114.2 with a net "lead" of 3.5 points. Please note that as of right now, the combined number of points separating the No. 1 team from the No. 2 team in Orlando #1 and Orlando #2 is a whopping one point. As a matter of fact, the No. 1 team and No. 2 team in Orlando #1 are only separated by one point in the MAIN and both are in the top 20.

Las Vegas - The average first place score as of today is 114.0 with the average second place score being 109.8 with a net "lead" of 4.2 points. Please note that half of the leagues (5) have 1.5 points or less separating the top two. Very impressive.

Chicago - The average first place score as of today is 121.0 with the average second place score being 109.8 (same as Vegas) with a net "lead" of 11.2 points. In two of the leagues, only 3.0 points or less separate the top two teams. Too close to call.

New York - The average first place score for all nine leagues as of today is 119.3 with the average second place score being 106.5 with a net "lead" of 12.8 points. Two of the nine leagues are separated by only 2.0 points and one is only separated by 4.5 points. Too close to call. In the remaining six leagues in New York, the average first place score as of today is 123.4 with the average second place score being 105.7 with a net "lead" of 17.7 points.

Though most of us would gladly change places with the top teams in these close races, most of the rest of us will at least be getting some sleep. A few might be resting just fine with some money in the bank. The largest lead in each city is 9.5 points in Orlando, 15.5 points in Las Vegas (no other team has more than a 9.0 point lead), 20.0 points in Chicago, and 25.0 points in New York (in five of the New York leagues, the difference between first and second is at least 16.5 points).

Just thoughts...no judgements.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
