A $5,000 prize will also go to the team with the best combined main event point total and the Online Championship point total. A combined standings will be available to follow as well.

Here are the rules for the 1st annual NFBC Online Championship:

Section I: Official Rules and Regulations of the

NFBC Online Championship

1. Overview: The National Fantasy Baseball Championship (NFBC) Online Championship will consist of individual leagues, each comprised of 12 teams/managers. The NFBC Online Championship’s regular season will extend from Opening Day 2009 through the final game of the regular season (including a season-ending tie-breaker if needed). Teams will compete for accumulative stats in five offensive and five pitching categories, with each category weighted equally. Categories include: (for hitters) Batting Average, Home Runs, RBIs, Stolen Bases and Runs; (for pitchers) Wins, Saves, Earned Run Average, Strikeouts and WHIP Ratio (Walks plus Hits divided by Innings Pitched). The team at the end of the year with the most cumulative points in each league wins the league title and we’ll pay the top two spots in each individual league. Teams will also have their cumulative stats positioned in an overall Rotisserie setup league (5x5 with each category weighted equally among all teams in the NFBC), with the top finisher overall winning the grand prize.

2. Draft: Drafts will take place online at www.mockdraftcentral.com from Saturday, March 28 through Saturday, April 4. Participants can enter as many Online Championship leagues as they’d like and be eligible for the league and overall prizes. For a complete list of available NFBC Online Championship Leagues, click on the REGISTER link on the NFBC home page, go to the second page and click on VIEW ONLINE CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUES. The entire list will show up.

If an NFBC participant inadvertently leaves the draft with an illegal lineup (for instance, was without a middle infielder or second catcher) then the NFBC will drop the last pick made by that team (or more picks if needed) and add the last player at that position on Fantasy Sports Magazine's final Cheat Sheet on Draft Day to make that lineup legal. The NFBC participant could replace that player after that error was discovered during the first FAAB period on Sunday, April 5. All lineups must be legal before the season starts and the NFBC will correct all errors that may have been missed at the draft.

3. Roster Requirements: Maximum of 30 players at all times.

4. Starting Lineup Requirements: Starting lineups will consist of:

• 2 Catchers

• 1 First Baseman

• 1 Second Baseman

• 1 Shortstop

• 1 Third Baseman

• 1 Middle Infielder (2B/SS)

• 1 Corner Infielder (1B/3B)

• 1 Utility Player (any offensive position)

• 5 Outfielders

• 9 Pitchers

There is a 700 innings pitched minimum requirement for all NFBC Online Championship leagues, but no minimum requirement for number of starting pitchers or relief pitchers on each roster. Should any team not reach the required limit of 700 innings pitched by the end of the season, the league and overall rankings will be altered to show that team getting 1 point in both ERA and WHIP. No other teams will switch positions in the standings, but the team that didn’t reach the minimum IP will automatically earn 1 point in ERA and WHIP. All players must have played 20 games in 2008 or 10 games during the 2009 season to qualify at a certain position. Minor-leaguers who did not play 20 games at any position in 2008 but who still played at least one game in the majors last year, will qualify at the position they played the most at in the majors in 2008. Other eligibility guidelines can be found under Section 6 in the Rules. If a player returns from retirement or rehab after missing the previous year, his position eligibility will be his previous year’s eligibility. If no Week One lineup is submitted, the NFBC will determine your starting lineup. After Week One, if no starting lineup is submitted, your starting lineup will be that of the previous week. Owners DO NOT have to fill their 23 required starting spots with their first 23 draft picks; i.e. you can pick your second catcher with your 30th pick if you’d like.

A. League Management Web Address: You can access your league via the Internet by going to http://www.fantasybaseballchampionship.com/. You will need a username and a password to access the game site. Contact [email protected] if you are signed up for the contest and don't have a username and password. All drafts will be held online at www.mockdraftcentral.com and owners will receive free access to this site before Draft Day and for the draft.

B. Lineup Submission: All lineups may be submitted on the league web site and are due five minutes before the first game starts each Monday. If the first game of that Monday starts at 7 pm EST, your starting lineup must be designated by 6:55 pm EST. For any Monday early game (before 7 pm EST), NFBC owners are allowed to activate those players involved in those early games and then officially set the rest of their active players before that first 7 pm EST game. Rosters for all NFBC leagues are locked for the week at that time.

C. NFBC Phone In: STATS Inc., one of the largest and most respected stat providers in the fantasy sports industry, will be handling all transactions via phone at 888-450-2730. Please acknowledge that you are calling in transactions for the NFBC Online Championship when you call the toll-free number. You will need your username and password to submit transactions via phone.

5. Scoring: The NFBC Online Championship will use a 5x5 Rotisserie scoring setup. Cumulative totals will be used for the following categories:

• Batting Average

• Home Runs

• RBIs

• Runs

• Stolen Bases

• Wins

• Saves

• Earned Run Average

• Strikeouts

• WHIP Ratio (walks plus hits divided by innings pitched)

6. Position Eligibility: The NFBC Online Championship will use the following position eligibility rules in 2009:

a) Players who played at least 20 games at any position in 2008 will qualify at that position for the entire 2009 NFBC season. Players who play 10 games at a new position in 2009 will be eligible at that position after they have played for the 10th time there this year.

b) Players who played less than 20 games total in the majors last year will be eligible at the position they played the most games at, not including DH or pinch-hitting.

c) Those players who only pinch-hit in the majors in 2008 will be position eligible according to their minor-league games played status in 2008. They would qualify at the position they played the most games in the minors.

d) Players who played all of 2008 in the minor leagues will be awarded position eligibility for 2009’s NFBC season based on the most games played at all levels in the minors. STATS will determine that one eligible position before Draft Day and that will determine that players’ status for 2009 once he is called up to the majors. Those players who only pinch-hit or DH in the minors will only be UT-eligible.

e) Players who played 20 or more games in the majors last year and didn’t play 20 or more games at one position will be deemed UT-only eligible in 2009 unless otherwise designated by the NFBC Commissioner. The NFBC Commissioner will rule on player eligibility prior to the draft as he deems necessary. Those eligibility lists are final.

f) Additional position eligibility will be awarded during the season when a player has played a new position 10 times which he was not previously eligible.

7. Free Agents: Any player who is not on a team roster within your league and is on a major-league roster or once was on an NFBC team in your league is considered a free agent for that league. Even players on the MLB disabled list are eligible to be picked up during the FAAB bidding process. The player pool is deemed closed of new free agents each Sunday at 7 a.m. EST before the FAAB bidding deadline. Participants should note that MLB unsigned veteran free agents at the time of Draft Day are eligible to be picked up or bid on in the NFBC Online Championship.

8. Free Agent Acquisitions: The free agent system will be a "blind bidding" process for each individual league. Each team will start with 1,000 free agent "dollars" for the season, and will be permitted to bid for free agents on a weekly basis with a minimum bid of $1 per player. No team will be informed of any other team's free agent bids. The team with the highest bid on any given player will be awarded that player. The amount of the winning bid will be deducted from the winning team's free agent dollars. For each winning bid, the winning team must drop a player to make roster room for the free agent acquisition. If a team's free agent dollars goes to zero, that team will no longer be allowed to bid for the rest of the season. No bid will be accepted that is larger than a team's free agent dollars. All bids must be in increments of dollars (no cents). The winning bids with owner's name will be shown after the FAAB bidding period for each NFBC Online Championship league along with the runner-up dollar amount that was offered for each player. The first FAAB period will be held on Sunday, April 5.

9. Bidding Time Frame: The bidding process starts the week of March 30 for Week 1 and ends at the completion of Week 26 (including any regular-season tie-breaker game). Bids will be accepted on the league web site from Monday at 3 p.m. ET until Sunday at 8 p.m. ET in each of these weeks. If you are submitting by phone, you must submit your bids by 5 p.m. on Friday. Rosters will be updated shortly after 8 p.m. ET on Sunday with the results of all successful bids and starting lineups for the upcoming week to be finalized five minutes before the first game every Monday.

10. Conditional Bids: Conditional bids can also be offered. In the event you may lose out on a player, you can place conditional bid(s) for other players during the bidding time frame. The first conditional bid will become relevant only if you lose out on your primary bid. Subsequent conditional bids will become relevant only if the previous conditional bid fails. Bids do not require conditional bids. Bids may have several sequential conditional bids. Participants should note that the computer takes the HIGHEST BIDS and processes each bid in that order if you have multiple FAAB acquisition bids. Putting a larger bid on a conditional bid than a primary bid also isn't allowed.

Example:

Acquire Max Scherzer, $19, cut Tony Pena

Acquire Jensen Lewis, $16, cut Tony Pena

Acquire Eric Gagne, $2, cut Tony Pena

11. Number of Bid Limits: There is no limit to the number of bids each week in which bids are permitted. The computer processes the bids in the order of highest dollar amounts, so make sure your highest bid is on the main player you want to acquire. A higher dollar amount for a lower priority bid will be processed first.

12. Tied Bids: If there is a tie bid, the team that receives the player will be determined in order by:

1. Worst league record.

2. Lowest standing the previous week.

3. Coin toss.

4. Lowest standing three weeks previous.

5. Lowest draft position from Draft Day.

In the case of a tied bid during the first FAAB period (April 5), the player will be awarded to the team that had the lowest draft spot on Draft Day (i.e. should Team 4, Team 7 and Team 11 each bid $1 on Sam Smith, Team 11 would get him).

13. Trades between managers: To minimize the possibility of collusion, there will be no trading allowed. All drops are also subject to review by the commissioner of the NFBC and can be revoked if the dropped player is deemed too valuable to be offered to that league's free agent pool, thus damaging the credibility of the overall contest. The commissioner can also allow a cut of a star player and then keep that player out of that league’s free agent pool for any length of time, including the rest of the season. All decisions by the NFBC commissioner will be final.

14. League Structure: Each league will consist of 12 teams competing in a Rotisserie style mixed-league format for the league championship. Points will be awarded in this order: 12 points for 1st place in each category, 11 points for 2nd place, 10 for 3rd and continue down to 1 point for 12th place. This will occur in all 10 scoring categories. Payoffs will be for the first two teams in each league. Teams will also have their cumulative stats positioned in an overall Rotisserie setup league (5x5 with each category weighted equally among all teams in the NFBC), with the top finisher overall winning the grand prize.

15. Submitting Starting Lineups: The weekly NFBC Online Championship deadline for setting starting lineups is 6:55 p.m. ET each Monday. Any game that occurs before that, NFBC owners are required to get those players involved in their starting lineups five minutes before the start of those games. Owners are also allowed to remove a player (or players) who is officially on the DL from their starting lineup with one of their players from their reserve roster before each Friday's first game as long as the position eligibility works out. Players must officially be on Major League Baseball's DL list according to STATS and the NFBC by 12:01 a.m. on Friday for this move (or moves) to take effect for the weekend games

16. Random League/Draft Spot Selections: The NFBC Online Championship will randomly select the leagues and the draft orders of each league once all entries have been finalized for each draft date. For instance, if the NFBC receives 48 entries for the Saturday, April 4th afternoon draft, we’ll put all 48 names into the computer and select in order: League 1, pick 1 is John Smith; League 1, pick 2 is John Doe, League 1, pick 3 is Jane Andrews, etc. until all 48 names have been selected. We will do this for each draft date for all of the leagues. We will also implement the Kentucky Derby Style process in the NFBC Online Championship to allow owners more draft preference. The KDS process allows owners to rank their order of preference for Draft Day, ranking their preferences 1 through 12 BEFORE the leagues are selected. If an owner wants the third pick if he is selected No. 1 overall in his league, he would choose that option and he would then be moved to third in that league on Draft Day. NFBC officials will look at every owner’s Draft Preferences after the leagues and orders are randomly selected and then announce the draft orders for each league. Once each NFBC owner has officially signed up for the contest, they can find this feature in their game site under My Settings. Then click on Draft Preferences and you’ll see the Draft Order ranked 1 through 12 and the option to change those preferences next to them. If you decide not to rank your preferences, your preferred order will remain 1 through 12. Owners can change their Draft Preferences right up until the announced deadline is set.

17. Prize Breakdown:

NFBC Online Championship = $20,000

Second Place = $5,000

Third Place = $2,500

Fourth Place = $1,250

Fifth Place = $500

Sixth Place = $350

League Prizes:

First Place: $1,300

Second Place: $650

$5,000 Bonus will be awarded to the top overall team based on number of points earned in the NFBC Main Event and the NFBC Online Championship.

We are paying back 75 percent of all entry fees for league and overall prizes plus an additional 5 percent to an overall grand prize combining the overall standings of the NFBC main event and the NFBC Online Championship. League prizes are $1,300 for first place and $650 for second place. The grand prize is guaranteed at $20,000. The first 300 teams that enter are guaranteed spots in the NFBC Online Championship and any additional revenue above that total up to a maximum of 600 teams will be reimbursed under the same percentages to the overall prize pools.

18. Time Limit For Draft: There will be a 90-second time limit for each owner to make his/her pick during each round of the NFBC Online Championship draft. If a participant does not make a selection in the allotted time, the computer will select for that owner using MDC’s overall ranking system. If there is a computer failure, an error made with a selection by an owner or any other type of technical malfunction, the draft moderator can stop the draft at any time and correct the error and then resume the draft. We will allow the draft moderator to roll back the draft if a technical error occurred, but if the desired player had already been selected before the draft was stopped that player is no longer available to be drafted. All decisions will be made by the NFBC moderator during the draft and will be final.

19. Commissioner Decisions: All decisions made by the Commissioner of the NFBC are final. Tough decisions sometimes must be made about eligibility rules, lineups, draft software, etc., and NFBC participants must accept the unbiased ruling of the NFBC Commissioner.

20. Refunds: Once a participant submits valid payment, no money will be refunded to participants or co-managers unless The NFBC Online Championship is canceled. A team spot is considered filled when the entire entry fee is paid. Krause Publications reserves the right to cancel any entries not comprising a full 12-team league. When a participant agrees to finish the registration form and submit payment, that participant has demonstrated his/her acceptance of the official rules and regulations for the NFBC Online Championship.

At its sole discretion, Krause Publications also reserves the right to terminate The NFBC Online Championship in its entirety if there are an insufficient number of teams two days before each deadline. In this unlikely event, Krause Publications will refund all entry fees within 48 hours of cancellation notice and/or provide a new application form with the newly stated prize figures. All pre-registered applicants would have the right to a full refund or agree to play for the newly announced prize structure or in other leagues. Krause Publications is not responsible for any loss or liability incurred by any participant or co-managers due to cancellation of the NFBC Online Championship, including but not limited to travel or hotel expenses, time taken off from employment, etc.

21. Taxes: If the principal participant's prize winnings exceed $600.00, The NFBC Online Championship must file a Form 1099 with the IRS at the end of this calendar year. We will request your social security number and signature on this form and will pay the principal owner. The Form contains the amount paid to you and you will receive a copy of the Form for tax purposes. You are responsible for paying any taxes that result from your cash prize. Please consult your income tax advisor for filing advice.

Hey folks, the newsletter that was sent out today had the wrong prize structure. The payouts listed by Greg above are correct. We'll send out a newsletter tomorrow with the correct prize structure. Our apologies for any confusion.

Also, we'll limit the number of leagues we'll have each day because it will take a lot of manpower to watch each league. So if you have a certain date that you want to participate on, it will be a first-come, first-serve basis.

If an NFBC participant inadvertently leaves the draft with an illegal lineup (for instance, was without a middle infielder or second catcher) then the NFBC will drop the last pick made by that team (or more picks if needed) and add the last (highest ranked undrafted) player at that position on Fantasy Sports Magazine's final Cheat Sheet on Draft Day to make that lineup legal.

No, Greg has it right. We're not trying to strengthen a team who errors on their roster. The lowest player at that position is the right call. They can use their faab to bid on the highest ranked player or someone else of their choosing.

This player's lineup will be legal with the no-name player he gets, but he will then need to spend some FAAB to make his lineup better for the mistake he made on Draft Day. He can do that on Sunday, April 5th.

Greg,

Will you have an online championship for 14 team leagues?? Also, will you still offer the 14-team satellites in 2009 ($100, $250, $500, $1000)? I love the online championship dates and prizes but prefer the 14-league format so I was just wondering...thanks Greg.

Yes, we'll still offer the same amount of 15-team NFBC Satellite Leagues, including several during the last week before Opening Day. Nothing will change there and all of those will be private leagues where we just pay the top three finishers.

The NFBC Online Championship will be a format where we'll have 12-team leagues, pay the top two finishers in each league and then pay the Top 6 overall. That format will be set up the same as the main event with 300 teams competing for league prizes and an overall prize. I hope this explains things better.

[/QUOTE]Thanks guys. Yes, I meant 15 teams (not 14)...I've got football on my mind.

Greg,

Yes this clears it up for me. I prefer 15 teams but I can live with a 12-team league format for the online championships. :D

This new setup for the NFBC online championship sounds great. I know I'll have at least 1 team competing for sure (in addition to satellites and possibly a return for the 100k main).

Greg:

So, what did I miss in Arizona?

I like the incentive in linking the Main Event and the newly created Online Championship. Similiar to football, it is a nice perk. My question, sorry if I missed this, but how will you handle the diehards that buy the three pack? If somebody buys the Three Pack, will they be rewarded by allowing the BEST of the entries to be linked to the single Main Event entry for the additional prize purpose or will we need to designate which of the Three Pack teams are linked?

I would like to think that those playing the extra team(s) should be rewarded for loyalty and may serve as a positive selling point for the NFBC/NBC.

I would like to think that those playing the extra team(s) should be rewarded for loyalty and may serve as a positive selling point for the NFBC/NBC. Ken, you missed a GREAT time. I'm doing chores around the house today, but will put some fast facts on the boards tomorrow. I'm going to post the facts that Rick Wilton handed out during his Injury Report as it's pretty amazing. It was a record year again last year for MLB teams and the numbers will blow you away. If you thought you had an injury-riddled fantasy team last year, don't worry, WE ALL DID!!

We saw some great prospects and learned a lot about some upcoming rookies. I'm going to get active on the boards tomorrow and get some discussion going, so stay tuned. Oh, and we also assembled 15 NFBC guys and did a mock draft through 12 rounds. I'll post that too.

And yes, we'll combine your main event score with your BEST online championship team. In fact, I'll ask STATS to line up your main event team with ALL of your online championship teams and be listed several times. That's the only way to go. Tomorrow I will add the dates and times of the online championship on the Registration page and we should have that live in the next week. There's a programming change we need to make on the back-end for this event and with the three-pack, so just be patient a little longer.

All is good and I promise to dive in on the boards tomorrow with everything. Stay tuned.

Okay, we are finalizing the Registration page now and will have the NFBC Online Championship entries ready very soon. We are offering 15 different draft times through 8 days before Opening Day and will fill on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some people will like the later draft dates and others will want the earlier draft dates, so we'll fill up 3-4 leagues per night and then deal with the demand for certain dates later.

We will have an MDC.com and NFBC person monitoring each draft, so we are limited in how many drafts we can run at any one time. We obviously will staff up to handle demand if it's warranted and MDC.com has agreed to help us there as well.

Here's the lineup card and we can make changes if folks desire something not on the list. We are trying to have a few day drafts, a few weekend drafts, a lot of weeknight drafts starting at 7 ET and a few weeknight drafts starting at 9 ET. Remember that we'll also offer three-packs for $950, $100 off the cost of three teams alone.

Good luck all.

Draft dates will be:

Saturday, March 28th, 1 pm ET and 5 pm ET

Sunday, March 29th, 1 pm ET and 5 pm ET

Monday, March 30th, 7 pm ET

Tuesday, March 31st, 7 pm ET and 9 pm ET

Wednesday, April 1st, 2 pm ET and 7 pm ET

Thursday, April 2nd, 7 pm ET and 9 pm ET

Friday, April 3rd, 2 pm ET and 7 pm ET

Saturday, April 4th, noon ET and 4 pm ET

The one thing we noticed with the NFBC satellite leagues is that it was tough to fill up those 9 pm ET offerings. People asked us to do those for the West Coast folks and we do, but those are tough to fill. The goal is to have a couple of full leagues for each offering so that we can mix up the group of owners if at all possible.

Right now I think we'll start with this group of 15 offerings and if it's apparent that we don't have enough offerings at 9 pm or on the weekends or whenever, we'll add more. Sound good?

And STATS said they will have the online championship on the Registration page by Tuesday. Look for the offerings and all of the sats separated by dollar values like we had with football by Tuesday.
