What is Cleveland going to do with Shoppach, assuming VMart is healthy? Are we looking at a four way platoon between those two, Garko and Hafner (assuming Hafner is healthy, too)?

He hit .304-7-28 in 48 games after being sent to Triple-A Round Rock, but the Astros didn't even use him after his September callup as he was 0-for-6 in just four games. Don't you think if the Astros really believed in this kid they would have given him a strong September audition?



He will turn 25 in February and is young enough to be a good sleeper, but it's tough to overlook a .137 average in 146 big league at-bats. That's a pretty lengthy chance to show what you've got and I think you could even hit .137 in 146 at-bats.



If the Astros are ALL IN, you should be too.

Maybe I just answered my own question.... Shoppach will never have better trade value than right now, so that's what I'd do. But I think the Indians will go to spring training with the thought that they want to see if everyone is healthy and if Hafner has anything left. Did the minor surgery help him regain some power? If not, then there are more ABs available at DH, but even then Shoppach won't get more than 300 ABs. If V-Mart is healthy, trade Shoppach and let's see if he can handle a full-time job without beating Jack Cust for the AL strikeout record.

Don't you think if the Astros really believed in this kid they would have given him a strong September audition? Keep in mind the Astros were making a "Rockies-like" push to the playoffs in September, at least in their own minds.

[/QUOTE]Hey Greg - I'm a Cleveland fan - and I couldn't agree with you more - I wouldn't be surprised to see Cleveland try to move him - they have a highly regarded prospect in the pipeline, Carlos Santana , who I think the Tribe sees as the future at the position.
