GG II chat at 6pm 2nite!

Post by Gordon Gekko II » Wed Jan 21, 2009 10:53 am

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Gordon Gekko II. I am a high stakes shark that specializes in winning your entry fees. although, I haven't won the 100K, it's only a matter of time.

Anyways, here are some High Stakes Fantasy Baseball Highlights:

NFBC 2008 – Won 15 team league. Finished #6 overall (out of 390 participants) in Main Event

NFBC 2007 - Won 15 team league. Finished #5 overall (out of 375 participants) in Main Event

I thought I'd mention my background because in this day and age, there's only a select few people that you can trust in this game we call fantasy baseball.

The most egregious violators are the industry guys who tout themselves as experts and sell you their "expert" opinions. LET ME BE CLEAR ABOUT THEM: THEY ARE CHARLATONS. I (AND A FEW OTHER PEOPLE) EAT THOSE INDUSTRY GUYS FOR BREAKFAST EVERY YEAR. MMMUUUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

With that said, I'm available from 6pm - 6.30pm 2nite to answer your questions as they pertain to fantasy baseball, the NFBC, or my big ego.

I just began my prep for 2009, but I feel like Neo in the Matrix.

Fire away! :D

I'll throw a couple out...

GGII - What did you think of Ron Shandler having Joba Chamberlain as his #1 SP as listed in the Baseball Forecaster?

GGII Response - Complete job. The kids innings will be capped this year and may not be in the rotation all year. He had all of 100IP last year. Ya, they were a good 100IP, but to give him the #1 ranking over proven studs borders on lunacy.

Question: Will Jay Bruce hit 32 hr's as the Forecaster projects?

Answer: Draft Bruce with the expectation of low 20's. Anything else is profit.

Rank the order of importance in winning an NFBC league title:

Draft Day

In-Season Grinding via FAAB

Roster Management/Starting Lineup Decisions

Why were you so high on Geovanny Soto last year and now so down on Matt Wieters, or is this all posturing? Honestly, what's the difference of opinion between Soto's one big year in the minors in 2007 and Wieters having just one year in the minors?? Both come into their rookie seasons as questionable picks, but as we found out with Soto last year the upside at a terrible offensive position is immense. Wieters could go higher than Soto did last year on Draft Day, and there are no guarantees that he will start in the majors right away, but why are you advising folks to stay away?

Geeko - if you could start the draft this year with any player whom would it be...and why?

Now back to reality....right now...what do you think the best spot at the draft table is?

Luck of Injuries Goog question. There is very little about injuries that are based on luck so I'll rank that last. For instance Carlos Lee last year was a luck injury. It sux, but nothing you can do.

1. Draft Day - You gotta have a good team of core players. There's only so much you can do on the waiver wire. You can't lose Draft Day.

2. In-Season Grinding via FAAB - Important to keep abreast on all the callups and look into your crystal ball to determine PT. You have to be looking at least a week ahead.

3. Roster Management/Starting Lineup Decisions - Play your studs. Drop bums.

Hey, did we have that Search function on the Message Boards before? Sheesh, I can look up any member or any player and get all the past topics for them. I kind of like that. Did we have that before??

Look at all the links from the Message Boards now. At the bottom they go to all of our products and there's faq and search at the top. Hey, I'm digging this and I didn't even see this before I jumped in this thread. There, you've helped me discover something already. :D

Wieters is only 22 and is not seasoned in the minors. Soto was older and more seasoned.

Weiter will go down as a huge bust this year.

Mark, do you take a different approach when you are drafting your Main Event team from when you are drafting in the Super? More risk/reward type players in either?

Now back to reality....right now...what do you think the best spot at the draft table is? 1. Probably HRAM. Fills SS position. True 5 category stud. Better than AROD.

2. Don't really have a preference at this point. The middle picks allow you to get catch some falling value players moreso than being on an end. So, I might go with a middle pick. I believe last year my KDS started with 6, 7 or 8

If you are trying to win the NFBC Main event, and you have done well so far, Why then are you offering free advice. Are you going to be totally honest with your answers? Don't you get what you pay for? Would you draft Ben Sheets?

I can't be the only one who wants to know the answer to the above questions.

Jeff ahhh...a question from a DIRECT competitor and an excellent owner!!!!

i've learned a few things about the Super league last year. i don't need as balanced an approach in an individual league. also, last year i got locked in on a coupe players and REALLY jumped their value. main event i got b.butler in the 13th and Cueto in the 18 i think. The following day at the Super i took butler in the 11th and cueto in the 15th!!!! YIKES

man, did i suck at the super last year.

this year, i'm less locked in on specific players.

Dan Dan - Thank you for your inquiry.

Trust me, I'm not giving you the McLouth, Pedroia, and Volquez's of the world. I drafted all those guys last year and THEY ARE THE KEY TO WINNING YOUR LEAGUE, NOT THE GUYS YOU PICK IN ROUND 1-5. find the 2009 versions of those guys and you are well on your way to winning your league title.

sheets - i probably won' touch him unless it's at a nice discount. i don't like injury-plagued pitchers.

I'll bite. If there was one thing you did differently (quality/strategy/type of analysis/etc.) that you would say made you better in the last two years than you were previously, what was it?

Question via PM: GG list some early round busts!

Answer: Longoria, Upton, Furcal, R.Howard, any pitcher in the first two rounds, any closer in the first four rounds...

Mark, how much disadvantage/advantage do you think there is when drafting in a strong/weak league(in your pursuit of winning the overall title)?

Jeff well chicago has placed some people very highly on the overall leaderboard the past few years. i hope that trend doesn't continue this year.

obviously, getting in a weaker league helps. i'd rather be playing against guppies than sharks. my guess is most leagues are about even. there might be an outlier here or there, but there is nothing you can do about it.

my own personal opinion is that I can beat anybody, guppies, sharks, anybody. i might have less room for error amongst sharks, but i'm bringing it full force. GO HARD OR GO HOME! :D

Where will Ramirez, Dunn, and Sheets end up? It is hard to project players when you have no idea what their plans are!

My question is why do you post this:

"I just began my prep for 2009, but I feel like Neo in the Matrix."

when nobody believes you?

Ex. - you have knowledge and an opinion regarding Wieters.

p.s. - it is my job to point these things out. :D
