We had a great group of 15 NFBC veterans in the draft room last night and I think everyone had fun. These guys even got serious and put up their own money to reward the winner, so they are playing for keeps. Since this draft will be featured in our second issue of Fantasy Sports Magazine, we'll tease the early rounds here and let everyone comment on the picks. Enjoy.

Chet - was it your plan to just take the best 6 hitters in the first 6 rounds. I see that you have 5 OF in first 6 picks. How did that play out later in the draft?

maybe I value Ordonez a little higher than others in that lineup, but I think he was a steal at 6.2. with Granderson, Polanco hitting over 300 and getting on base for him and Cabrera to knock them in. He should definitely exceed 300 avg and over 100 rbi, if not 120 in that lineup

Bobby I wanted to accomplish 3 things 1) be competetive with guys I have a lot of respect for 2) Test a theory I had on scarcity 3) Put something out there that will be different than anything I would do in the main event while still trying to give it the effort and integrity Greg deserves for the mag. You have done these before and know that at least one person drafting near you usually comes up and lets you know he knows what you did in the magazine.

Hope things are well for my new facebook friend.

Okay, my first draft of the year is over. I participated in the magazine draft last night, and I expected a very tough draft for three reasons. 1) I've spent less prep time than last year. 2) All-star competitors 3) January draft. After the draft was over, I realized that my knowledge of the game is even more impressive than I originally thought. It's tough to describe, but picture it as Neo realizing that he's "The One" in the Matrix series. Free your mind. Unfortunately for all of you, I have a little of Agent Smith mixed in my blood. I see an NFBC competition this year that is ruled by me, and there is no stopping it. This is my world (for lack of a better word). And yes, it is inevitable.

He will.

And if the winner has him, a year later someone will post that the winner played in a dumbass league and that the winner had it handed to him.

I love human nature.

I just want to say that this was my first official "commissioner" role of the year and I thought everyone was extremely well behaved.

I'm surprised Ortiz fell to the end of the 4th. Were you? Uggla and Bruce seemed to go off the board early.

ortiz falling to the 4th is a joke. the guy has put up beast master stats 4 out of the past 5 years.

i'm not a big uggla fan, but bruce is a different story. could top 30 hr's this year with good speed. bruce is gonna go early this year. i don't think he goes as early as he did last night, but 5th round won't be a surprise.

Im surprised Werth went in 5th. Not making an argument that he doesnt have potential to make this pick werthwhile but is this where he is going to be going?

Schwks - it is earlier than he has gone in any other drafts and I can't totally defend the reach other than to say that IMO he was the best OF left on the board and certainly the most likely to be 20+ and 20+ - I actually gambled that "higher ranked" (at least in the current masses opinion) players would slide another round - and they did, so in that respect it worked out. I had planned on going hitters through the first five rounds before taking my first pitcher, but with the particular draft forces at work and the opportunity to get Haren at 4.08 I wandered and then got back on track in the the next three rounds with Werth, Atkins, and Pena.

Nice to see the thought processes. He is certainly on the rise along with some other guys du jour. No doubt he will have opportunity to increase #s through abs.

I took Liriano.... Tried to take advantage of a good ERA and Whip. It will cost me in other area's later in the draft.

Pick 5 needed to be different. They just went before me. Then 7.1 would be perfect for Liriano or Santana.

The Gekko boy cut me down on a few picks later that killed me.

Also changing my screen name from BudFox, to my team name which is LONG GONE.

My home league started in 1983 or 1984.My brother asked me to join in 1985.I was only 12 years old at the time. With the Tigers being my favorite team decided to name it LONG GONE after Ernie Harwell's home run call.

The league requires a managers name also. I wanted an old time name. like the crazy name's from a long time ago. You know, Lefty, Dizzy, Scotter, Catfish, Oil Can. They all seem like great names.

So I decided the team name will be Long Gone managed by Short Cummings. My addiction to this game has never changed since.
