Good question. Very intriguing player for sure.
After mentioning he wanted to see Viciedo in shape for spring training, Guillen says, "He's going to have a legit shot and I want to see him play."
He entered the Cuban National Series at age 15. In his 2nd season at age 16 he hit .337 with 14 homers.
Conventional thinking would have him start in the minors but that was the same thinking for Alexei Ramirez before they finally decided to keep him up in the majors.
Even bench coach Joey Cora says, "He's going to be special, I think."
On a side note, the guy is built like a tank. He just looks like ballplayer.
At the young age of 19, he'll most likely start the year in the minors, get a couple hundred at-bats in the majors at some point, and then in 2010 we'll be hyping him as the next Albert Pujols. That's usually how it works.
Then 10 years from now we'll find out he's really 45 years old.
