JE I will be working but I wish I could be there for it.

Shawn, if you could tell me the biggest reason you have been so successful in your career (I know there are many), is it:

a. You draft a balanced team with upside.

b. Your first 10 picks are solid players you build your foundation around.

c. You continually "outdraft" your competitors in rounds 21-30.

Pick the one that you honestly feel has given you the biggest edge against your opponents over the years.

What are your numbers targets for each category ie. 160 steals, ??? homers?

Are you constantly aware of these targets during the draft?

Is it your goal to be top 5 in every category?

If you are in a draft and you see great value plays that might give your overall team imbalance in certain cats but possible dominance in others, do you draft these players or do you strictly adhere to balance, balance, balance?

With that being said, if you sway from your all balance approach to dominate a couple categories, name one cat in hitting and one in pitching that you feel is easiest to dominate without sacrificing other categories?

I'm big on Gallardo. I think he has big time upside and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him have better numbers than Billingsley this year. His overall numbers are limited and probably don't look so hot although he did dominate in 3 out of 4 months his rookie year (2007) He's a guy who has loads of potential, maybe Lincecum type potential down the road, well not the huge strikeout potential, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him with a 2.80 e.r.a. and 1.15 whip within the next couple years mixed with 200+ K's.

With that being said, he's never pitched a full year and you would have to take him over proven veterans. Do you think it's more wise to just take him off the draft sheet understanding there's risk there or would you feel comfortable having Gallardo as your 2nd SP this year?

I know there's probably an obvious answer here but I'd like your take on his situation.

Do you recommend getting one stud closer in the 6th round and getting a 2nd closer much later (13th round or so) or do you believe stud closers are overrated with regards to their overall impact on your team?

If you were to draft 2 SP's and one RP in the first 10 rounds (just bear with me), would you rather have Roy Halladay, Billingsely and Jose Valverde, or Roy Halladay, Aaron Harang and Joe Nathan and why?

Shawn, I read your article about catchers on baseballmafia.com Do you think it'd be a wise move to take 2 (of the top 7 that you mentioned) w/in the first 4-5 rd's? Or is this just a reach for a particular position that will hurt you later?

I know one your fav players (Manny!) has got to be elevated after today's signing, but how much? I know there will be concern about his motivation, but he seems to be money in the bank every yr. The only OF I can see even entertaining the idea of taking before him would be Braun. And I wouldn't.

Thanks Shawn & Jeff.

Shawn:

What strategies and/or ideas will you employ in a straight draft ( Main Event ) format as compared against an auction format considering that the NFBC offers both types?

In regard to a league only style, such as this years NL only auction, will you be employing anything different this season as compared to last?

Ken Magner

ps: Jeff, you might want to find out what Sportsbook Childs will be parlaying his Superfecta skills at on Thursday night - guy is a ringer a picking a winner! ;)

Where does AROD go now ? I'll give you a 25 round sleeper if you come within 5 picks of the NFBC Main ADP.

[/QUOTE]Very good show.

I have to say Childs' comes off as so humble, it's pretty refreshing. He never gives off an air of cockiness. Fun show. I definitely wrote down a few tidbits from it. Thanks Shawn.
