High and Tight - Something you may be interested in

Post by viper » Wed Sep 01, 2004 12:41 am

A small but shameless plug for getting the CREATiVESPORTS "FREE" weekly e-mail newsletter. I don't claim to be an accomplished writer but the subject matter may be one you are interested in.

I write the "High & Tight " column that appears only in the newsletter and is found every Friday. I write on strategy but for the next 3 or 4 weeks I plan to write almost exclusively on the NFBC. The NFBC provides a unique situation in that there are no trades allowed and a weekly FAAB process is used to add new payers. The draft and FAAB are the only real ways to improve your team. The main thrust of this week's column is an unscientific analysis of drafting position and results. Are some positions better? More importantly, are some positions worse?

not sure if it would fit. It is very long. Also, there may be a slight ethical reason I should not post it publicly. Email me and I will send you the Word file.

Viper, that is a very interesting article and analysis. To think that 15 has been as successful as pick 1 is interesting indeed. It also shows that the lower draft picks can certainly contend for the league title and I'm sure the overall title. Shoot me this analysis again at the end of the year as we may have an NFBC recap story waiting for you to write for our first Fantasy Sports Magazine article. And we even pay for those!!!

Don't tell me Lawr doesn't pay you!!! I don't want to hear that!

Yes, the #1 and #15 seem to be the same but both are some of the worse draft positions out there. Both are well worse than average.

This week (out tomorrow in fact) I looked at everyone's first two and first three picks. Wanted to see if there was some combination of drafting hitters and pitchers that was better or worse. Bottom line is that none of the combinations are much different. I broke things down very simply by:

1) power hitters,

2) non-power hitters (speed or scarcity for the most part),

3) starting pitchers and

4) closers.

Not so amazingly, no one drafted closers as their 1 & 2 picks. One team went power, closer, closer. They were the only team taking two closers in the first 3 rounds. They lead their league and are in 5th overall right now. Will it be a trend???

I see a feature story in Fantasy Sports Magazine coming your way!!! Keep the analysis coming. I like that two closers in the first three rounds analysis too. Lots of good tidbits to spread the word this winter about the NFBC and fill up those 300 teams.

I'll see Lawr at the Arizona Fall League Symposium next month and see if I can't get a buck and a quarter per column for you. That would be $37.50 in hard, cold cash and would make the pressure = no fun more acceptable!

Might enjoy doing an article on the NFBC. There is a lot of stuff to talk about and anything I could do in helping you to get a full field would be good. Hopefully I won't drive them away.

Can't find your e-mail. Would like to talk about the symposium. I'm thinking of going but wonder about it. Talked to Haverty a bit and may try and call Trace (Long Gandhi). I suspect he goes. He live here in Northern Virginia too.
