Stat of the day

Post by Snord35 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 3:10 pm

Lot of great stuff today. This is the thing that makes the top spot for me.

F. Lopez and T. Clark both hit 2 HR's today from both sides of the plate. Last year the two hit a total of 9 HR's today they hit 4!

Post your stat of the day.

it took them a while and a lot of guesses, who were the last pair of switch hitters to hit home runs from each side of the plate in the same game were Jorge Posada and Bernie Williams

Should also add in Ken Griffey Jr. hitting his 8th opening day HR to tie a MLB record. Still showing he has something left in the tank.

Bobby Abreu has a 13 game opening day hitting streak.

Dollars to donuts, Tony LaRussa is tanked right now.

Hanley Rameriz right out of the box with his first career grand slam and 5 rbi's.

Hank Blalock with a nice start homer 3 rbi and batting clean up in that lineup.

Matt Kemp going deep in his opener 30 - 30

Bonifacio 4 hits 4 run's 2 rbi's 1 hr 3 sb's and on many bench's.

Cliff Lee get's hammered i finally own him.

Jose Lopez with 3 rbi's Alex Rios with 3 run's.

Nolasco 6 innings 6 k's and a win.

What I liked about this was that his HR came against one of the best righthanders in the game. I've heard enough talk about him killing lefties and being average against righties. Move him to cleanup!

Those who pulled the trigger on CC in the 3rd (and even 4th) could be regretting it ALL year. :(

[/QUOTE]CC owners were suicidal last year. I'm sure he'll end up fine. No location = no success. Will hold sway every day.

Not a stat, but my favorite play of the day was when Adam Jones hit that triple. As he was approaching first base, he blows a bubble-gum bubble like he is some kid with not a care in the world, then kicks in the afterburners and winds up at third.

Now that is baseball!

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I guess this is why the wise old owls of this game don't put much weight into spring training numbers...

Garbage pitchers, hitter friendly ballparks, the best pitchers only going a few innings.

Here's a breakdown cut and pasted of spring slugging percentage leaders with a few added comments.

•Todd Helton - .950 (Mirage, Las Vegas comes to mind)

•Jesus Guzman - .922 (who?)

•Scott Rolen - .889 (see Helton)

•Mark Teahen - .883 (wishful thinking)

•Milton Bradley - .800 (A game of Sorry anyone?)

•Matt Brown - .787

•John Buck - .778

•Endy Chavez - .771 (YIKES!)

•Ray Sadler - .762

•J.J. Hardy - .761 (Hmmmm)

•Ryan Howard - .760 (yawn)

•Corey Hart - .757

•Mark DeRosa - .750

•Nelson Cruz - .745 (nice to see a carryover from 2008)

•Erick Aybar - .741

•Jason Lane - .736

•Torii Hunter - .735

•Curtis Granderson - .732

•Nick Markakis - .729

•Josh Hamilton - .728

•Nomar Garciaparra - .727 (not a believer)

•Chris Shelton - .720 (remember this guy?)

•Jeff Mathis - .717

•Ryan Spilborghs - .712

•Justin Morneau - .711 (Get out of my store Mr. Simpson and NEVER come back...and "Come again")

•Craig Monroe - .704

•Taylor Teagarden - .700

•Russell Martin - .698

•Travis Snider - .698 ("Rook" of the year)

•Jayson Werth - .696

•Brad Emaus - .694

•Robb Quinlan - .694

•Pablo Sandoval - .691 (interesting)

•Yuniesky Betancourt - .683

•Kendry Morales - .682

•Mike Wilson - .681

•Mike Rivera - .676

•Robinson Cano - .667 (likes to tease)

•Alex Cintron - .667

•Austin Jackson - .667

•Gerardo Parra - .667

•Chris Carter - .658

•Shelley Duncan - .657

•Jed Lowrie - .657 (Hmmmm)

•Alex Gordon - .653 (tasty! :D )
