Just wondering the opinion of the owners in the NFBC regarding the quote below. Somehow my life crossed paths with the person who wrote this and he's gotten under my skin ever since our meeting. I've seen him bash both the NFBC and NFFC numerous times on his website and through e-mail, yet I cannot get him to join either and he will not even join a competitive league at all. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what this guy has to say, but I would love to see what others think about the lack of true fantasy baseball in the NFBC???
Don't go for the I play in NFBC crap. The NFBC is great, but it's tough to count that as true fantasy baseball. When you have $1500 or $3000 on the line, you aren't playing for fantasy baseball supremacy you are gambling. Trust me, people run their teams MUCH different when huge sums of money are on the line. I prefer leagues with trophies or small cash prizes. That way the competition and your self is focused on winning and not your bankroll. Try Vegas, it's easier.

If your basement mancave has etches on the wall to mark your free yahoo league or espn leagues you won vs. 60% absentee owners then you probably have no clue what competition is like.
Try playing fantasy baseball against mostly educated people who have a large stake in their competition.
Why take shots at people who can afford (or choose to afford) higher stakes fantasy games instead of finishing up your online typing class so you can get a better job at the temp agency. Just saying....
Maybe your website wouldn't have to have 3x as much adverts as content... not that I googled the above quote to see who said it. I swear. I did NOT count 17 ad spaces plus 2 boxes full of google ads on his front page... seriously.. 25 ads on one homepage? No way, that didn't happen and I won't discred the guy on a shoe string budget whining about people with jobs paying for things.
I won't do that, I'm too busy picking up Arod from FA in my yahoo league and putting in a waiver claim for the guys who just dropped Sabathia in my ESPN free league.

High stakes drive high competition. All fantasy baseball is gambling, some guys just don't have the guts to gamble with their own money.
- the guys who play Yahoo or free ESPN are the guys who always look in the newspaper and think about who they "would have" bet on but never actually make the bet. They are willing to play fantasy baseball, but not actually invest anything into it.
- the guys who play in $20 leagues are like $20 gamblers. They like doing it but aren't into it enough to really research it and put $1000 of their own money on the line. They either don't believe in themselves enough or don't have the motivation for it. The guy you talked to is probably in that category and just doesn't realize it.
- trust me (and I'm not one of them) guys who bet $100's and $1000's of dollar on sporting events are almost always guys who really do their research and know that they are doing. Very few people will gamble large sums of money without being seriously prepared for and invested in the wager. That is what the NFBC is. The money secures great competition. The guy you wrote about would only have to go to a main event draft room to know that this isn't a pool of rich guys who know no more about fantasy baseball than the general Yahoo participants. It is a pool of regular guys who devote more effort to fantasy baseball than 99% of the players out there.
That is why this is a great competition. You can join it for the money or the competition or both. IMO, if you only join for the money you won't end up ever seeing any of it. It's the competitiveness that drives guys to manage their teams hard all season.
Your friend is guilty of one thing - ignorance. We have all done the $20 leagues at some point, so we know the difference. Your friend can't really judge the quality of this contest until he participates in it for an entire season and sees how hard it really is. It is the ultimate fantasy baseball competition.

Dyv Perfect. There is nothing more I can add to the discussion, much like the person who posted their dribble on their webpage to begin with.

If I win the Main Event this year, I'm going to tell Greg to keep the $100,000. Truth be told, I'm only playing for the trophy.

The third and fourth sentence states that we play differently with more money on the line...how would HE know that? The fifth sentence says that he would rather win his dollar back from a lotto ticket than have a chance for the bigger prize. Sentence six makes no sense at all, the money has been spent, why would we focus on the money? And sentence seven? A lot of us did try Vegas and it wasn't easy.

Hey Dyv, tell us what you really think.
You think there's a lot of ads, spend a couple days reading some articles and count how many times "expert" is used.
The first time I "ran across" him he was stating Chone Figgins was the same player as Rickey Henderson

. After being on a show with him, he invited me to play in his "expert" football league. He then proceeded to change settings AFTER the draft and acted as if I had a problem because I objected. He actually had an aneurism due to me calling him out on this and many other things, so to say he's a friend....well, not quite so. He doesn't like me because I've attempted to help him and his lack of touch with reality. Oh yeah, he hosted a fantasy baseball league as well and used his commishioner status to submit his lineup AFTER the submission deadline.
Since I was in his "expert" league, I decided to listen to his show......I really feel sorry for the guy. Did you know if a team is favored to win and you pick them to win, it can be an upset because in YOUR eyes, they should be the underdog.
The only time I check out his site is when somebody sends me something like the comment about the NFBC. I have a hard time corresponding with someone so far "gone" it makes you wonder why they do not take their meds. I'll leave you with one last thing from one of the contributors to his site.
Lets look at (Huston)Street. He will have to go up against the great pitching and bats of the Red Sox and the Yankees. In my eyes this division is stacked with games that he might not even take the field so any closer winning the job will find themselves with a few extra nights off.
Also, for those who haven't drafted yet, here's a few breakout guys for you.....Johan Santana, Joey Votto, Alexei Ramirez.
Yes, they are indeed experts......experts at HTML codes and all of us are merely gamblers.

You "know" him, Red....he's none other than the True (HTML)Guru. He's going to be quite upset when the real Fantasy Guru makes his appearance on blogtalkradio in a few months.

This "nobody" has gotten far more press than he deserves.
The more money is on the line...the higher up the priorities list that league moves.
