My condolences to those who started Micah Owings this week. He was originally supposed to start on Wednesday in place of Arroyo, then got pushed back to Saturday. With tonight's rainout, his first scheduled start has been pushed back to April 15th.
Sean Marshall got the same "shaft" this week as well, as did Jordan Zimmermann. Owners of 5th starters can really get screwed the first week or two.

Glass half empty or glass half full...those with Penny are doing cartwheels after his start today...sure, wasn't the best, but he was hitting low to mid 90's, which makes his owners happy!
Let's hope he can keep it up!
13 Wins 3.75 ERA 1.30 Whip and 130 K's would really help improve my staff!

Those numbers indicate that he will be starting all year. I am not sure he will be starting when Smoltz is ready to go, unless they go to a 6 man rotation?

I know they're not talking this way.....but don't be surprised if the starting five are doing well when Smoltz is ready, if they don't use him out of the pen. Smoltz has experience there, he won't have to stretch out his fragile arm as much, and he ended last year wanting to pitch out of Atlanta's pen.

Sox didn't bring Smoltz to Boston to work out of the pen. Unless Paps is hurt, he will be starting. Plus what makes you think that pitching out of the bullpen would be less taxing on his arm??? Sox are very careful with their pitchers. If everyone is clicking on all cylinders by the time he comes back, don't be surprised if they go 6 man rotation..... Just my opinion

Smoltz signed a contract ladened with incentive clauses. There is absolutely no chance that he agrees to end his career as a middle reliever. Injuries and non-performance afflict every pitching staff, it won't be different for Boston.

It may not happen, but you can't say it "definitely" won't happen.
Who would have thought it was a possibility last year?
My guess is the two of you have Smoltz on your roster and therefore are sure it "definitely" won't happen.
Time will tell....

Smoltz is not on any of my teams.
Time won't tell. Clay Buchholz has the same chance of being a reliever as Smoltz, none.

o.oo% chance Smoltz is in the pen this year. It was part of the contract as Doughboys points out and for a guy coming off a serious injury the bullpen would be very dangerous for his arm. He'll be starting.
