Is this guy done? Or just off to an extremely slow start...no average, no home runs, no anything???

He was a joy to project:

2005 15 HR

2006 14 HR

2007 13 HR

2008 12 HR

2009 ?

His stats are actually not bad compared to what you were to expect from him in 2009.



What about these top picks who are really struggling:



1) Alexei Ramirez

2) Rick Ankiel

3) Jimmy Rollins

4) JJ Hardy

5) Chieng Ming Wang

wang needs his own "list".

Wang is struggling?



I did like the Roto snipet that Yankee coaches would look at tape to look for mechanical flaws.



Same sunny demeanor as the guy who jumps off the Empire State Building. On his downward descent, he yells in at a guy in the 10th floor window, "So Far, So Good!!!"

In my Yahoo leagues I always make it a point every year to try and trade for him at the all-star break. He always turns it around and has a fine season.



What can I say about Wang, he was on my "top 30 underrated pitchers". I have no idea what's going on with him but if somebody drops him I'd pick him up. I picked up Hughes this week in anticipation of the Yankees doing something with Wang, what I don't know. But Hughes has 2 solid starts in AAA and if he gets a shot he can be a strikeout pitcher who can win some games. Worth a shot.



Hardy is so streaky it's not even funny. He can be downright frozen cold or the hottest hitting shortstop in baseball. You just gotta weather the storm. The fact your in 2nd place with those guys not hitting is probably a testament to your later round picks. Curious what late guys are coming through for you.

I thought panic time about Giles...assuming you owned him...........was Last year....

crazy- i gotta give you credit. you at least owned up to wang. i owned him in a league. trust me- he is a bust even if his era is 2.00 from here on out. that was just awfull. dear dough- you need a bigger building ( paraphrasing jaws)

I'll admit I'm wrong when I'm wrong and clearly I was way off. It does seem like a flukey situation though. Wang won 19 games 2 years in a row, got hurt last year after winning first 5 starts and going 8-2. I'm pretty sure nobody predicted this. Something's wrong with him and Wang might be the only one who knows why. Could be all mental.



I think he turns it around but I'm sure I'm alone here. But you're right headhunters, there's really not much he can do to right the ship after killing your e.r.a./whip like that. Then again, in one league (Kimo's)I have Uehara and Litsch give up 14 earned runs in 2 starts and still am 2nd place in e.r.a and first in whip. Wang owners can still recover but it'll take quite awhile. Just unlucky.



In a 12 team league he's droppable, 15 team league he's benchable until he proves otherwise. He might turn it around in his next start and all this is a moot point.

if wang throws 45 straight shutout innings his era is still above 4.00...now thats an ugly stat...and i have the pleasure of having him on my team...on a lighter note i told my wife 'wang is killing me"...she made me a docs appointment for tomorrow........................

I'm in one of the slow draft leagues and he's my 5th outfielder. Giles hit over .300 last year and is hitting 3rd in the Padres lineup and is playing everyday. But he's killing my team right now.

I really thought you were joking. You really cant be counting on Brian Giles in any competitive fantasy leagues. He is a plug in at best.



If he were a MI, he would be ranked along side Barmes or Scutero (the real Scutero) but alas he is an OF and you will most probably be disappointed.



Look at the bright side- Josh Hamilton, a consensus #1, has 1 HR and is batting under 230. There is hope.

Hitting third in a bad lineup is like Dale Earnhardt Jr. sitting in a Kia.



Brian Giles hitting third in the Padres lineup is like my Aunt Ruth sitting in a Kia.

Giles was helpful last year, so it isn't a stupid question. He was useful as a 5th OF or good bench reserve for injury replacement weeks.

Hitting 3rd on the Padres should make him worth using (but not when he bats .200 or less!). It should be worth about 70 runs and RBI's which is worth being on an active roster or bench if it is coupled with a .280+ average.



But, right now he sucks. He is old. Who knows which way he will go. Could be the end of the road. If the Padres ever drop him to 7th in the order he is done for fantasy value.



If Brian Giles is your biggest concern right now, you must be doing really well!

Giles will be fine. He isn't going to be GOOD, but as a bench OF, if you play him for his away Splits, you should get solid production in AVG, Runs and some RBI... don't expect more than 10-15 HRs though...
