Congratulations to Bob Mazur, whose Spartacus team in Las Vegas League 5 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,110 points.

A huge week from Evan Longoria (.379-2-14) led the way offensively. Justin Upton (.346-2-7), Hank Blalock (.292-2-6) and Jacoby Ellsbury (3 SBs) also had strong weeks. On the mound, Carlos Zambrano, Johnny Queto and Yovani Gallardo combined for four wins and 31 strikeouts.

Congratulations again to Bob and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

Bob:

Congrats my friend! Always a ring of honor to lead this outstanding group for a week.

Must have been something in the bacon at the Imperial Palace, wait till they post the Online Championship winner for the week!

Great job, I'm going to try and stay close to that bus, but it appears to be speeding away with some guy driving with a huge red # 5 on his back.

Kemp will be very good this year but agree Adam Jones is the real deal and lead's the major's in run's.He was one of my bigger gambles in the ultimate and i had to take him in the 10th round or i wouldnt think he would make it back.Funny thing leaving the draft he was my biggest worry as i passed on some pretty good player's.

How about Eric Bedard look's like the Bedard of a couple years ago.

I didnt get Cueto in one league and sick over that.

lET'S GIVE IT up to my main man who i have in the [main, scl, ultimate]that would be Carlos Pena who leads the major's in homers. My last day in Vegas i threw 20 bucks on Pena to lead the majors in homers at 25 to one.Yeah Boy.

Asdrubal Cabrera is off to a great start and is now batting 2nd. YES.

Matt Holiday suck's i hope all you Holiday lovers are feeling the pain with his one homer and zero steals. Crazy tryed to warn you all. ha ha ha ha

It was a week like most others. Things were going good, but not great. Bob Mazur had no reason to believe his Spartacus team in Las Vegas League 5 was due for anything special.

Then came the weekend.

Some big performances on Saturday and Sunday proved to be huge for Mazur and it helped his team lead the way in the NFBC last week with 3,110 points.

“The results of Week 4 kind of snuck up on us,” Mazur said. “Through Friday it was a pretty ordinary week. Good but not spectacular, I think we were around 36th place for the week.

“I was hoping to stay within the top 40 for the week because I have a side bet with breakfast at stake in Vegas for 2010. The team that finishes in the Top 40 most often gets treated to the luxurious Imperial Palace Buffet. Ironically, that side bet is with Lindy Hinkleman, who won the week 4 overall in the Online Championship. Clearly it was good week for the all you can eat crowd!

“Team Spartacus had a big offensive day on Saturday in all five categories and we were also fortunate enough to not have any of our pitchers get torched – primarily because none of them pitched. We began Sunday 12th in the weekly overall and I thought that if we had a good pitching day and our offense was solid, we had an outside chance of going 1 up on Hinkleman. Winning the overall? That depended on Cueto and Zambrano, who as it turned out both pitched pretty good and as further luck would have it Zambrano pulled a hammy before he could have his customary meltdown inning. Lucky us. “

That was Mazur’s first weekly win in his four years in the NFBC. As far as the competition with Hinkleman? There are 22 more weeks to decide who pays for breakfast at the Imperial.

That is a great idea for a side bet!

Most weekly top 40 finishes!

Congrats Bob!

It really was nice to join that little club of weekly winners, but as you can tell by my side bet I'd be happy to play this game for as many sausage links I can fit on my plate. Not to forget, thanks for the plateful of compliments as well gentleman and props to Tom for a his creative and entertaining transcription! Good luck the rest of the way boys and hopefully tomorrow belongs to you...........

P.S. For those keeping score, the Hinkleman-Mazur Buffet Challenge 2009 is tied 1-1. Not only did Lindy win the Online overall for week 4, he finished 19th in the Main Event's! Geez, he almost won both of them! However, according to the rules only the Main Event counts.
