Congratulations to Brent Grooms, whose No Balls No Babies team in Chicago League 1 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,202.5 points.

A huge week from Jason Bay (.379-4-14) led the way offensively. Ryan Zimmerman (.469-1-6), Victor Martinez (.333-1-6) and Jose Reyes (.333-1-5-6) also had big weeks at the plate. Ryan Dempster, Jake Peavy, Josh Johnson and Jonathan Sanchez combined for three wins and 49 strikeouts while Kevin Gregg had three saves.

Congratulations again to Brent and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

As a Jonathan Sanchez owner, I can say with some confidence that Brent won the week DESPITE Sanchez, not because of him. 9 IP, 9 ER, 21 baserunners, zero Wins. I'd have been happy to have sat him and his 10 K's on the bench last week.

The offense came to play for Brent Grooms last week and the result was the best week by any team in the NFBC.

A huge week from Jason Bay (.379-4-14) led the way offensively as Grooms’ No Balls No Babies team in Chicago League 1 topped the NFBC field last week with 3,202.5 points.

“The keys to my Week 5 win were great weeks offensively from Victor Martinez (.333-5-1-6) Todd Helton (.407-5-1-2) Jose Reyes (.333-7-1-5-6) and Jason Bay (.379-9-4-14-1).

“I also had solid pitching from Jake Peavy, Ryan Dempster, Josh Johnson, and Kevin Gregg. After losing Rick Ankiel early in the week I was afraid that I would be in trouble but thankfully he was placed on the DL and I had a replacement for him on Friday.”

The 36-year-old Grooms is a student living in Wauwatosa, WI. He’ll be moving to Tallahassee, FL in a few weeks to go to grad school at Florida State University.
