NFBC Member Passes Away

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Oct 15, 2004 7:27 am

Last year whenever we received a new NFBC member, I promptly went on the Message Boards and said, "Welcome to the growing NFBC family." I meant that because I wanted this contest to be more than just another high-stakes contest. I wanted everyone to get to know the people they were competing against and enjoy the live draft as much as they enjoyed the online portion. Well, it worked and a lot of guys really did get to know the members in their league.

It's with sadness today that I mention that one of our NFBC members passed away recently. Gary Sobov of Philadelphia, Pa., competed in the New York AL Auction League last year and along with his partner, Bob Walters, led the Glimmer Twins to a third place finish. The Glimmer Twins finished one-half point ahead of Ole High Mile for the final money finish. Gary was so intent on competing in the Auction League last year that he volunteered to fly to Las Vegas if we didn't get enough people to form an AL-Auction League, but I assured him that we would get it done. We did during the final week of signups and Gary was probably the happiest person in our contest to know that a high-stakes Auction League was taking place in New York.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gary's family.

NFBC Member Passes Away

We spend our lives trudging off to work, providing for our families, and watching the clock. The hum drum days are separated by weekends, vacations, holidays, and special events. Those little interludes are what make up most of our memories and satisfaction gained from life that we will carry to the grave.

I'm glad Gary got to enjoy the fun and excitement of last years auction draft. We never know when death will come calling and we all need to savor every minute.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Gary's family.
