Over the last month:



37.2 innings - 32 hits allowed (important stat) - only 4 walks and 32 K's. 3.58 e.r.a. - 1.04 whip.



Those are numbers I love to see. Not a lot of talk about him but he's been pretty damn good this year.



Just wish it would translate to wins. 0 wins over the same period. Meanwhile Jeff Niemann had 4 wins over the same stretch with a 4.45 e.r.a. and 1.58 whip, not to mention more walks (15) than K's (14).



In the same league (Kimo) I've had 3 wins over my last 18 starts while being top 4 in e.r.a./whip. Just a little bad luck. (mini-rant)

Uehara - good pitcher. bad division. and i don't give a rat's ass about hits allowed.



Niemann - total shot in the dark. the numbers that i look at say he sucks.

Dub is right. Niemann was an ironic example. He sucks. listen - you follow the basic foundation of good k/9 and good bb/9, and i'll agree with you all day. k/9 takes precedent over bb/9, but still both are the two most valuable metrics to determine a pitcher's success.

Just wish it would translate to wins. 0 wins over the same period. I drafted Uehara for my Main Event team and have had him all season. His problem is obvious....stamina.

It seems every start, he cruises through 5 innings only to give up whatever meager lead the O's have given him to that point in the 6th or 7th inning.

I like the kid, and he's been giving me decent production on his peripherals...but if he isn't able to increase his stamina, it doesn't bode well for later in the season once the innings start to pile up.

i get a bit irritated when i see the uehara stats. i went to the shandler conference and he said he could see him "giving up 50 bombs" this year and predicted he would be a bust, therefore i slid him down my listd significantly and have him on 0 teams....ooooppppssss...on a side note, i picked up big JEFF this week and he did me proud...then again it was the athletics...bombs away in his next start for sure!!

I have Uehara in a few leagues including the main.

Like his matchup this week againest Wash.He's got great control and throw's 4 pitches well.Things will change and some win's will come.

You look at Blanton's current ratios to decide where he is and where he's going, I look at the last 5 years combined with situation (hitter's park) and come to a conclusion.



Whether Blanton turns it around or not doesn't decide who's right and who's wrong. We just differ on how we come to our conclusions. The fact that we spend a great deal of time on this is a good thing, and that's something I'm sure even you can't disagree with.

IMO, you are putting WAY too much importance on Blanton's previous history. WAY TOO MUCH. compute his K/9 and BB/9 since he came to the phillies. go ahead and include the post season. i think you are underestimating him based on historic results that are no longer valid for him.

isn't lohs,errr, blanton's may k rate more indicative of his "talent" than aprils? april's numbers are historical and not relevant. may's are the keys, no?



i still think this(oops)the blanton thread is epic. i think there has been more discussion on blanton here than at mrs. blanton's tupperware parties when she tells all the girls about her son joseph.

I can understand if you're hoping for a 3.80 e.r.a. - 1.25 whip pitcher but if he's not showing that early then it's time to cut ties. The reason being is he doesn't have history backing up a big enough turnaround to be worth your time. Just my opinion.

I think it's funny because I keep saying, "why are we still talking about Blanton" right before I chime in for the 40th time? It's interesting to hear different people's perspective on things. Obviously Gekko is good at this and has a method to his madness, I have a method to my madness as well.

Just my opinion. i don't watch postseason games, i only look at the stats. if i remember correctly he had some nice stats for Philly in the post season run.



and maybe you have me pegged wrong. i'm not thinking he's a 3.50 era or a 1.20 whip kinda guy. my app had him at 4.27 and 1.34, respectively.

On a side note: This is the only forum that can actually pull me away from watching a game on tv or checking box scores. It's fun jabbering back and forth.
