Congratulations to Scott Jenstad, whose Oaktown team in Las Vegas League 6 topped the NFBC field last week with 3,282.5 points.
Big weeks from Nelson Cruz (.348-3-5-2), James Loney (.323-0-6), Jerry Hairston Jr. (.318-2-5) and Asdrubal Cabrera (.333) led the way offensively. Kris Medlen, Adam Wainwright and Matt Garza combined for two wins and 37 strikeouts while Joe Nathan had three saves to lead the pitching staff.
Congratulations again to Scott and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

Scott:
Way to go Oak - the CDM connection working hard this season to grab some headlines in the NFBC.
I think Jeff Erickson needs to find a segment on his show so that you can share some of your insights! From a great appearance on Stump the Schwab a few years ago ( how many weeks has it been? ) to knocking off the best in the NFBC for a week gives you a special hats off Mr Jenstad! Congrats Scott, well deserved!

Congrats on being week 8's top dog!
And you are doing this with the likes of Brandon Webb and Manny Ramirez on taxi. Great Job.

Scott Jenstad’s draft day plan for the NFBC was simple – assemble the best team possible and, just as importantly, have some fun.
“I wanted to make sure I had a lot of fun at the draft and didn't take it too seriously, which I have in the past,” he said. “I have a lot of great friends from the CDM games that come out to Vegas every year and it is always one of
my favorite weekends of the year. The pre-draft discussions are always fun and a lot of these guys know their stuff and really make the NFBC fun.”
Jenstad accomplished Goal No. 2 in Las Vegas. He took a big step toward realizing Goal No. 1 last week.
Big weeks from Nelson Cruz (.348-3-5-2), James Loney (.323-0-6), Jerry Hairston Jr. (.318-2-5) and Asdrubal Cabrera (.333) led the way offensively as Jenstad’s Oaktown team in Las Vegas League 6 topped the NFBC field last week with 3,282.5 points. Kris Medlen, Adam Wainwright and Matt Garza combined for two wins and 37 strikeouts while Joe Nathan had three saves to lead the pitching staff.
“I was actually surprised that I finished first for the week as none of my guys went berserk this week,” Jenstad said. “It was just solid all the way around.
“My boy Nellie Cruz led the way with 3 bombs and 2 steals, but no one else had more than 2 home runs and I didn't have anyone over 7 runs or RBIs in the lineup either. I benefited from a number of guys having 2-start weeks which was huge for the strikeouts and wins.
“Medlen's gem Sunday was unexpected after he struggled vs. the Giants earlier in the week. Also key was Nathan and Bell having three saves apiece. I am just trying to grind it out week by week since I lost Manny and Webb so it was a fun surprise to nab a week while waiting for those two to return.”
Jenstad said he targeted a group of players for his draft but as always, the draft unfolded in a way that surprised him. In at least one instance, though, the surprise has turned out to be quite beneficial.
“I did not plan on Longoria being available which has obviously worked out great,” he said. “I went into the draft really liking a group of 6-8 starters that were available in Rounds 10-15 and I thought that was the value spot for starting pitching. I also really wanted a Top 6 closer as a lot of teams had closer situations that were up in the air or semi-set closers that I was not a fan of.
“(Drafting) Manny third and Webb fourth have obviously hurt and in combination with Rollins have made for a pretty empty start to the draft. But I’m trying to grind it out with who I have until they return or in J-Roll's case maybe get away from being ice cold.
“he only player I had targeted as a must-get was Nelson Cruz and while he had a slump for a few weeks in late April/early May, he seems to be hitting and running well once again, hopefully he can keep it up.”
Jenstad is single but his girlfriend of three years is a writer on AthleticsNation.com. He grew up in the Bay Area as an A's, Warriors and 49ers fan and now lives in Pasadena, CA where he works as an investigative consultant.
