Last year everything in Vegas was over priced. This year its going to be twice as bad. Its not the cost of the contest thats driving me away.
A mid week draft with no big crowds would be great for those of us who aren't rich. I guess I just can't afford to play the rich. Has nothing to do with playing the best.
Why do the drafts when it cost too much?

You can always stay off the strip area or downtown or at non casino hotels for a fraction of the cost. Someone posted that the hotel accross the street from the Rio has rooms for $89 a night for that weekend.
The draft pretty much has to be on the weekend because a lot of people can't get off work mid week. Missing work days cancels any savings you might make in room rates. Having it the weekend before would be the NASCAR race weekend and the weekend after is opening games plus the NCAA tourney is still going on. So it pretty much has to be the weekend it's scheduled.
The contest is expensive but there are ways to get around some of the expenses. You can share teams with friends and you can share rooms with friends. Several of the teams that Leaderboard Sports enters are shared teams and a couple are owned by the entire group. We sell $50 shares and you can buy as many shares as you want, you won't get rich but you can at least participate.
The NFBC is not for everyone but if you think of it as a vacation, It's not that much more expensive than a cruise and not as expensive as a trip to Disney and personally I'd rather be in Vegas doing a baseball draft than either of those.

Walla, Las Vegas has over 105,000 hotel rooms. I live here and I can tell you for a fact that there are cheap places to stay EVERY night, except New Year's eve. Because I don't want anyone not joining the NFBC due to hotel expenses, I will give you all the keys to the kingdom. The greatest cheap hotel site is travelaxe.com I have used this myself and the savings are frequently absolutely unbelievable. I once stayed in a Reno highrise (Golden Phoenix - formerly the Flamingo Hilton) for four days, including the weekend, for a total of $80! As far as Las Vegas is concerned, I looked up the best rates for 3 nights: Thursday, March 17 to Saturday March 19, checking out Sunday morning. There are 10 places in town with TOTAL 3 DAY rates of $122.40 (Golden Palms) to $202.76 (Fitzgerald's). Some are casinos and some aren't. If you are a real cheap bastard (and I suspect you are) you can stay for only $100.80 for all three nights in a nice casino room. That's less than $34 a night! The only problem is it's 40 miles away at Whiskey's Pete's! By the way, these prices include tax! The Westward Ho on the Strip is only $183.68 and the Lady Luck downtown is a mere $175.56. You can check the rest yourself. By the way, you can only get these rates by going through the website. The reason these deals are so good is that this website hooks up with many other websites making the amount of information you can check ungodly. You will all thank me as those who travel frequently should save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. There are no hidden catches. As I said before, I have used this site previously and was thrilled. Originally, it was featured in the Las Vegas Advisor. Enjoy!

Thanks Nevadaman! John, you are right that the NFBC isn't for everyone, but we sure would like to have you back. Check out those hotel rates first, see if you can find an affordable flight to Las Vegas during that time and then give us another look. You were in the AL Auction League last year and this year we have $650 Auction Leagues. Try out the AL and NL Auction Leagues if you'd like at $650 each. Or just find a way to win one of those NFFC leagues you're in and use that money for baseball! And when in doubt, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and we'll find a way to get you back in. It just wouldn't be the same without Walla Walla back in the NFBC!
