Good
1. He is guaranteed playing time in the potent Phillies lineup
2. He is only 25 years old
3. He’s a freakin battle ox!! 6 feet 6 inches and a published weight of around 230lbs
4. In the Minors the past two years he’s had a total of 698 at bats. In those at bats, he’s hit 51 doubles, 8 triples, 28 homeruns, and stole 14 bases
5. His new Home ballpark is a HUGE hitters park
6. He will be hitting in a stacked Phillies lineup (great for runs, rbi’s, hr’s)
7. He already has 2 major league homeruns in only 14 at bats
8. There’s always a chance that groin injuries can linger. If Ibanez is out 4+ weeks, Mayberry can be an absolute STUD in that lineup
Not so Good
1. He won’t win you any batting crowns, although his move to HUGE hitters park may inflate his avg
You are probably asking yourself, “Gekko, if he’s so good, why are you posting about him?”
Great question!
1. I already have a glut of outfielders. I’m actually thinking about reducing my OF complement this weekend
2. Mayberry is going to go for some good coin this Sunday. I have limited funds ($160) left for the remainder of the year. I cannot and will not get in a bidding war for any player. I cannot and will not jeopardize the remainder of my season by shorting myself FAAB.
Right now, Mayberry is my top hitter on the board. Second place isn’t even close at this point. If you are in need of a POWER hitter (who isn’t), what are you waiting for? Good luck everyone.
