The Phillies just put R.Ibanez on the DL (groin). John Mayberry will replace him in the lineup for AT LEAST the next two weeks. For those of you who don’t know who Mayberry is, I’ll fill you in:

Good

1. He is guaranteed playing time in the potent Phillies lineup

2. He is only 25 years old

3. He’s a freakin battle ox!! 6 feet 6 inches and a published weight of around 230lbs

4. In the Minors the past two years he’s had a total of 698 at bats. In those at bats, he’s hit 51 doubles, 8 triples, 28 homeruns, and stole 14 bases

5. His new Home ballpark is a HUGE hitters park

6. He will be hitting in a stacked Phillies lineup (great for runs, rbi’s, hr’s)

7. He already has 2 major league homeruns in only 14 at bats

8. There’s always a chance that groin injuries can linger. If Ibanez is out 4+ weeks, Mayberry can be an absolute STUD in that lineup

Not so Good

1. He won’t win you any batting crowns, although his move to HUGE hitters park may inflate his avg

You are probably asking yourself, “Gekko, if he’s so good, why are you posting about him?”

Great question!

1. I already have a glut of outfielders. I’m actually thinking about reducing my OF complement this weekend

2. Mayberry is going to go for some good coin this Sunday. I have limited funds ($160) left for the remainder of the year. I cannot and will not get in a bidding war for any player. I cannot and will not jeopardize the remainder of my season by shorting myself FAAB.

Right now, Mayberry is my top hitter on the board. Second place isn’t even close at this point. If you are in need of a POWER hitter (who isn’t), what are you waiting for? Good luck everyone.

Watched him play a few times down here during Spring Training and loved what I saw. I was amazed by how fast he got from 1st to 3rd with such a small amount of strides....he runs like a deer.

I doubt he every hits above 260, but the 30++HR power and 15+SB potential is a lock if given the playing time. From watching him play, I thought he was a perfect replacement for Burrell.......lil more SB's and better defense with a smaller amount of walks.

I drafted Mayberry and Kyle Blanks in my NL only league, I wish I was able to keep both of those guys.....freakin injuries!

So, GG, do you still think he was a wasted investment for those who bought him a few weeks ago and actually kept him rostered?

folks, this is nothing like jake fox, laporta, or gamel. those guys didn't have a place to play when they were called up. mayberry is "goldcarded" as one of my friends likes to say.

You are correct, Mayberry is a MUST for Ibanez owners. It’s a pretty good trade off…both are hr hitters. It’s not like you are trying to replace Ibanez with Scotty Podsednik!!

Good luck getting Mayberry on Sunday. If he hits another hr this weekend, his price tag will be bigger than my ego!!
forget that! if i were you id go $386 and then leave myself $14 for the rest of the way. you'd have $1 per week left. i mean its not often that a AAA OF gets called up and has a whopping 2 week window of playing time available! At that price he's a steal!!

HYPE HYPE HYPE. come on people spend all that cash! I heard we're getting more in week 20 this year.... so dont wait!

LaPorta, Gamel anyone?
I'd be getting any last update on Ibanez' groin first. And it all depends on who you have stashed on your bench. It could only be 2 weeks for Mayberry... oh wait... less than that by the time he gets in your lineup on Monday. That is IF Ibanez is ready to play again when he's eligible to return from the dl.

Mayberry? You mean that guy who has been able to hit all of .268...twice...once in A ball three years ago and once last year...in AA ball? The who generally strikes out three times as much as he walks? Yup...sounds like my kind of guy.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Podsednik has a HR in each of the last two periods. A HR a period from a FA replaces pre-2009 Ibanez' HR numbers.
