Slow Draft - Draft Champions League(s)

I just want to drop a line here and let everybody know that I joined two of the $125 Draft Champion Leagues this year (Slow Live Draft) and found them to be extremely enjoyable.
I'm hoping that Greg & Tom will carry these forward into next season and I wouldn't even be opposed to seeing some enhancements..
I can't stress enough probably the single biggest benefit of these leagues is to allow an active player the ability to play in more leagues without requiring more effort on their part beyond the draft. Taking the time to drop in once a week to set your lineup is a breeze and you don't need to worry about another league where you must scour the FA block to against your competition.
This season, I believe I saw Greg & Tom run about 7-10 of these leagues. I'd like to see this taken to the next step and include the following...
Create a Draft Champions Category similiar to the NFBC Main Event. Create 8-10 leagues, plug players into each league on a semi-regional basis (helps move the draft along) and also pay off the top 3 to 5 spots in an overal champion in addition to the winners of the individual leagues.. Move the entry to $150, remove the payout for 3rd place and there should be plenty of $$ to spread amongst the overall champs...
That would really help establish a "draft champion"

I'm glad somebody agrees...
I think we all agree we'd like to play more fantasy baseball but the time required to manage a league well can be a burden. Plus, when you have many leagues, it becomes confusing which is league is doing what, who is owned here, not there, etc, etc...
A draft only league affords an active player to draft many teams and not have to worry that as the season roles on, they'll be at a disadvantage while only paying 10-15 mins attention per week to the league. This was *huge* for me this season... It also helped let me gauge just how well I can draft versus the competition..
I'm proud to say I finished 1st in one league, 4th in the other....
I hope other jump on board with expanding this type of fantasy play and look at is as a supplement to their existing committments..
Also...
This type of format is the BEST format in terms of a 'mock' draft for the NFBC main event. Let's face it, people jack around in Mock's, and ADP of sattelites doesn't always tell the best story either. The ability to draft in a league with NFBC rules against the same number of teams and similliar players in a real world scenerio really helps main event players..

I just had a wild thought. How about any early slow draft has one free agent period before the season starts? You have one day to spend your $1000 free agent budget!

Oh, I second that idea... That would make things very interesting.. Of course, most players would have already been picked up, but I think it's a great idea..

You assume stats database will include all the players available that weren't drafted. Or would it be restricted to players on the 25 man roster ? or 40 man ? (that weren't drafted). I say leave the early DC's alone. I like where you draft em and move on. There's enough going on end of March without having to dig up that old january corpse. You want current ? Then join the DC's they have end of March.

So there's one player that came out of nowhere. Maybe a Cuban deserter or a player from Japan. 5 teams bid $1000 for him. How do you break the tie-breaker ? No standings yet.

reverse order of draft position would break pickup ties. so, draft pick 15 would receive that player or the highest(closest to the backend) would have the advantage in ties.

When April rolls around, almost every team has a couple of players who are hurt.

To me the concept of "draft championship" is the team who had the best DRAFT wins the championship. Not the team that scoops up players no one had the foresight to draft. But that's just me. Maybe that's an option Greg can work in. Some league's can be straight DC's others waiver DC's.

Instead of a $1,000 spending spree before the season, why not have one before the season and another at the All-Star break?
This would provide a second chance for those who lose out on players at the beginning and give everybody something to think about during the break.

Therefore we fall into your "Draft" concept.
January is a long time before the season.

Or maybe just the one at the A.S. break. Just throwing stuff out there and seeing if it flies.

I'm ok with the first bidding period to help clean out the dead weight from having a draft two months early, but I'm not interest in throwing a life raft to the teams with problems mid season.

I'm not even sure we can run an overall contest like this especially with guaranteed prizes, but I agree with Quahogs here. The idea of a Draft Champions league is just that, the DRAFT. The fact that 8-10 guys slipped through the cracks after 675 guys were drafted is the fun part of the baseball season. It's okay that nobody thought Chris Coughlin was good enough to be on a 45-man roster in February. Nothing wrong with that and even in late March he might not have been drafted with five more rounds.
I'm not even sure how deep we can go with rosters. Keep discussing but I think Q is right with the original concept of Draft Champions.
