Congratulations to David Longood of Salem, Oregon as he became our first three-time Ultimate League champion. David and his two sons come to Las Vegas each year to enjoy the March Madness festivities and the NFBC drafts and auctions and they have now left with THREE NFBC Ultimate Auction League titlees in five years. That's an amazing accomplishment guys.



Team Longood won the $40,000 first place check by winning the Ultimate Auction League title this year with 125 points. Team Longood has now won Ultimate Auction League titles in 2005, 2007 and 2009 for a total winning total of $120,000 in this format.



Congrats again guys. This is Hall of Fame material when we look at this at the 10-year mark. Great job.

Let's stick with the theme here and also congratulate Rick Thomas of Lewes, Delaware for winning the NFBC Ultimate Draft League this year. RT takes home the $40,000 league prize for this one after leading his RoundTrippers to the title with 121 points. This Nervous Nelly didn't count his money until the final out of yesterday's ballgame, but he really had an impressive season here as he almost led wire to wire. Great job RT and congrats on the Ultimate League title. Nobody can ever take that one away from you my friend!!



RT is another person who had a fantastic 2009 season, winning almost $50,000 in prizes. He won the NFBC Keeper League title as well. Great job Rick.

Nick Hundley R I think it was interesting to see he spent $130 pitching and hitting. It looks like a similar game plan as past years, but the players names have changed. Mauer, Lind, Matsui,and Morales were steals at those prices.

30. Mike Redmond After a rough 2008, Rick bounced back and more than made up for the bump in the road. I've talked to Rick many times over the last couple of years. He has great passion for the game. As we don't alway agree on style, his PORK style was the meal of choice this year. He is the classic grinder in fantasy baseball and the king of $1 bids. I'm sure the slow winter in Delaware will be a lot easier to handle with a pocket full of cash and a long list of slow drafts to keep his mind occupied.



Rick Thomas a great fantasy player and an even better person. I can't wait to get to Vegas.

Because, and I say this as someone who hasn't won diddly squat in this competition (so consider the source), this original 30 man roster isn't very good. Picks 1 through 4 all underperformed. 8, 10 and 12 were downright horrible. 15, 16, 20, 21 all lost a good chunk of the season to injury. 23, 24, 25 and 30 made no contribution at all. So by my count that's half of his original roster that didn't hit their projections, some missed by a mile.



Of course the remaining half did quite well, with fantastic value out of 11, 13, 14, 18, 19, 26 27, and 29. But still, you can't do this convincingly well with only half a draft day roster, right? Who else got picked up, when, and for how much, to make up for the lost productivity of half the squad?



My most glaring weakness is FAAB and in-season roster management, so I'm really hoping to learn from RT's experience regarding this issue.

Is it just me or was there less on FAAB to help this year than other years?

thanks guys for the accolades. as greg stated, i was never comfortable in the league of incredible players...shawn..steve jupinka...eddie gillis....detterra...thelen....didonato etc etc...i am very proud of this accomplishment. i have a 2nd overall title in the main and had a 2nd in the ultimate and NOW a bracelet...awesome. one thing that i am not too proud of is the draft i had. while i hit on mauer..hill...king felix...damon. i had a ton of clunkers(too many to list) but a few are beltre...bj ryan...hanrahan and sizemore. i am an example that you dont have to have a great draft but hit a few homeruns of the 30 picks and make some key pickups thoughout the year ie...bailey..franklin...macdougal....r. davis...feldman. as shawn stated i feel as though i "grinded" my way to the title and look sooooo forward to defending the title next year with the aprehension of a bullseye on my back...thanks for a great year and always remember there is no such thing as an offseason...grind away!!!

too funny, as i am writing a quick synopsis on my team i see a review commenting exactly what i was writng about...i agree bef/chest as you may see or i could share with you those free agents were the key to my success. and i forgot to mention i took ALL of wang runs and i and still battled to be in the 3rd in era and 4th in whip and was 3rd in wins. stubbs, sanchez sf p and prado were a big help as well. as stated earlier an embarrassing draft and a key area i look to improve on in 2010...RT
