Congrats to the Yankees!
World Series Champions again. And it only took a nine years of combined team salary of $1,578,269,197 to win one.

I liked this Yankee team.
They weren't the stale, 'we should be here' type of team that plagues most Yankee teams. Although money has given them a big edge, usually management makes up for it with blunders. Even though they totally mishandled Joba so that he was of little import in the playoffs, the talent won out.
They'll regret the Sabathia and Burnett contracts later, but it doesen't matter now, it got them a Championship.
I enjoy years where the two best teams get in the Series. This year was one of them, and the best team won.

I can't believe the poor Yankees had to go *9* whole years without a championship. And they made it to the playoffs and came close so many times. Pure torture. This proves that good guys don't always lose. Sometimes they win!

It’s funny. Every season that ends without a Yankees title you hear “See, money can’t buy you a championship”.
As soon as the Yankees win….……“Yankees buy another championship”

As soon as the Yankees win….……“Yankees buy another championship” Perhaps...yes. I do think they bought a championship. Most of their talent is not homegrown. Instead, they see a need and they throw money at it (because they can and are willing too). Done. Number 27. Congrats.
Kind of like your Mom paying the cute girl in the neighborhood to go to the prom with you. Hey...you got the date, right?
I also do think that money alone cannot win it, much as Doughy said. They finally got some players who can help, but it took them nine trys.
Who knows...I might actually win one of my leagues every nine years or so! Naaah!
If the Yankees are happy with a $1.6 billion dollar trophy that is valid until Game 1 of 2010, then I am happy.
Who knows? After another few billion, they might luck out and get the 28th. They will be in the market, after all, because they are such a young team (ARod, Jeter, Matsui, Damon, Posada, Rivera).

He can...but it would be silly.
I consider the RedSox organization to be the best run team in baseball. They usually make timely, well thought out decisions.
Unfortunatly, the players have nobody to blame but themselves. I noted earlier in the year that it was the Yankees on the top step of the dugout cheering during Yankee-RedSox games. Not the RedSox. The RedSox were acting like the Yankees of old. Maybe the two championships during the last six seasons have made some players a little "fat", I don't know.
The RedSox face some changes this year. Their leader and captain, Jason Varitek, will be phased out as Martinez becomes the mostly everyday catcher. The top six hitters in their lineup looks like gold, but Lowell cannot be counted on next year, Drew could never be counted on, and shortstop remains a bugaboo for them.
I have confidence that management will fix the holes in the lineup, it'll be up to the players to play with the fire that was lacking this year.

Funny and exactly right. This is why I can't understand being a Yankees fan. If they win, they merely fulfill your expectations. If they lose, they fall short of expectations. There is no grand achievement to celebrate.
If the Yankees are happy with a $1.6 billion dollar trophy that is valid until Game 1 of 2010, then I am happy. But note that I specified "fan." I can completely understand what the team does and I'd do the same thing. Buying the championship is only a biproduct of buying more money. They spend enough to guarentee a playoff spot nine years out of ten and that keeps the fans coming back and it makes them more money than they spend. They are successfully operating within the rules. It's the system that's broken. You can't blame them for taking advantage of it.

I hate you. God was that terrible seeing CC vs Cliffy Game 1 of the World Series... with both of them still on the team and Grady and Westbrook coming back healthy next season we woulda had a shot at the World Series in 2010... our rotation is TERRIBLE now (Is Jake Westbrook really our opening day starter??) and won't be near good enough to contend for at least another 3-4 years since we won't get any significant players in free agency...

Congrats to the Yankees!
Without Lebron, Cleveland sports teams would be brown.
Here's a stat for long suffering Cleveland fans.
During the 2008-09 season, the Cavaliers had exactly as many wins (66) as both the Indians and Browns COMBINED in 2009.
