Is 300 the limit?

Greg, It looks like you will hit 300 for the main event by mid Feb. Maybe sooner. Will you cut it off at that point or expand the number of leagues?

Is 300 the limit?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Sun Jan 09, 2005 4:55 am

Good question, John. Obviously my only goal is to fill up the 300 teams for the main event and I am limited in the amount of space I have in Chicago and New York for that Saturday draft. We are fortunate in Las Vegas because the Rio has been good enough to expand that room each time we've asked for it. So honestly, I have space for about 345 teams if I leave the drafts in the large U-shaped styles we had last year, as intended.

That being said, my goal is 300 teams, but if somehow the math showed partial leagues in the cities I would go up to 315 to make sure we had full 15-team leagues in each city and didn't need to resort to teleconferences to hook up the final signups. I want to avoid that this year and I'm positive we will, just like we did in football. If we go beyond 300 teams, I will put back 75% of all revenue for LEAGUE prizes, with the goal of expanding second place to $2,250 in each league and possibly even increasing third place league money.

So I'm somewhat flexible yet somewhat sure that the number will not be much above 300, if at all. First-come, first-serve and we'll do what's right after that to make sure each city has the right numbers for each league. I have no intention of being greedy as this will be a slow expansion each year going forward for the main event, while continuing to grow the Auction Leagues and even the NFBC Ultimate Leagues.

Now I must leave for Lambeau Field. My Packers are calling for my support.

One of the reasons that I got into this particular draft was because it was limited to 300 teams. I liked the fact that there were only 15 teams in each league at the maximum. I know this is all a hypothetical since we arent there yet but i am just throwing out my opinion

Greg, Thanks for explaining it. I guess that means once the numbers are there draft spots can be selected. That would be nice to have two or three weeks ahead of time. Not that it changes much. But its like a little kid getting to open a christmas present early.

I am not sure Greg that you can cheer enough to have the Pack luck out 3 times in one year to beat the Vikes! Personally I hope you have fun at the game but walk away frustrated that the Vikes could win a road game in cool weather.

I had a blast at Lambeau Field, yet HATED the outcome. Brett had the worst game I've ever personally seen him have at Lambeau Field, but Randy Moss is still an a--. You guys can have him and win with him occasionally, but I'll take Brett with the good and with the bad. Moss....what a joker!

Every league will be 15 team leagues, giving you a 1-in-15 chance of winning $5,000. That's a guarantee.

Now to go home and get rid of this buzzzzzzz.

Greg, I and most Vikings fan agree that Moss is a jerk. The problem we have is that he is the best receiver in football when he wants to play and we can't get good value by trading him. That being said, the Vikings will try to move him again this off season but what luck they will have is unknown. It is tough to beat a team 3 times in one season and when you consider the Vikings lost 34-31 twice before this year you had to figure the tide would turn. Neither team is that good. Now the Vikes go on to play Philly and they are not exactly the same team without Owens either.

I undertsand you hating the outcome but hey, you can forget all about football now and focus on the best sport of all, baseball!

By the way Favre is certainly a HOF, so does he come back for another year and another try? I find it hard to believe he would hang it up after that poor game yesterday.

Yeah, my full focus is baseball now, but I love football so much and will watch the rest of the playoffs with great interest. I love the AFC matchups and the NFC should be interesting. It should be a great finish. As for Moss, good luck there. He is your star player and the guy people identify the Vikings with, which is sad for all of you in Minnesota. We'll take Brett as our poster child and be proud of him.

Brett was non-commital last night about retirement and won't announce anything anytime soon, but I find it hard to believe that he could retire after throwing 30 TD passes for 4,000 yards. Yes, he wants to spend time with his kids back home, but he loves the game and is still among the best (although it was hard to tell that last night). I see him coming back for at least one more season. But that's just me as a fan speaking.

Now onto baseball and getting our 300 signups full.
