Shortly, Stuff is mostly about numbers, Junk will be more about offering an opinion...

Missouri/Missouri is when you don't trust a player after one breakout season and he has to show you TWICE that he can perform at that level.

I'll have to coin a phrase for drafting a player with past greatness in mind, but little hope of those feats in the future.

I like to look at players and ask myself, "Self, why are you drafting this guy?"

Today it was Rafael Furcal. Rafael Furcal was a great fantasy player. Emphasis on was. Since his back injury he plays like Ralph Furcal. You know Ralph? Yeah, neither do I. He's a nobody.

Harsh, sure, but what was every Rafael Furcal drafter thinking as they called his name at the draft last year....it was-'If he can only stay healthy all year.'

Be careful what you wish for. Furcal stayed healthy all year, delivering 92 runs and not much else on his road to becoming a one category Drano. Not, what you're looking for when drafting a guy in the fifth to seventh rounds. Furcal had 613 at bats which made his .269 batting average a drag on fantasy rosters. His nine home runs and 12 stolen bases fell way short of expectations, especially with those 613 at bats.

Brendan Ryan had more stolen bases, Marco Scutaro had more home runs. Orlando Cabrera had a similar stat line later in the draft....so did Melky Cabrera.

Furcal had a ratio of one stolen base every 57 plate appearances. For those of you scoring at home, that is a stolen base every two weeks. One thing I try to keep in mind for stolen bases, is that speed never makes a comeback.

So again.....

"Self, why are you drafting this guy?"

The answer, for me, will be "I'm not"

Knob Noster/Missouri is when you live a town with one stoplight....and it's not even w/in the town limits.
People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.
