Numbers guys like three year stats as it gives them more data and provides a better source for trends over just last year's stats.

During the last three years:

Brian McCann is the only catcher to have averaged 20 home runs

Slow and slower has become the dh mantra. Jonny Gomes has stolen 23 bases as a dh. Jason Kubel is second with six

Ryan Howard had 69 more rbi than King Albert

Braden Looper won more games than Zack Greinke and James Shields

Pujols: .337/108/39/118/8

Hanley: .325/117/29/85/38

Willie Bloomquist had more stolen bases than Rafael Furcal

Russell Martin had more stolen bases than Furcal, Ryan Braun, and Alfonzo Soriano

Magglio Ordonez hit .332

Despite spending more time in the whirlpool than second base, Rickey Weeks is 10th among 2b with 39 home runs

Milton Bradley and Marlon Byrd have hit for a higher average than Freddie Sanchez

Only four pitchers have averaged even just 16 wins a year-

Roy Halladay, Josh Beckett, CC Sabathia, and Justin Verlander

In the 'Can you remind me why he is still a Major League pitcher?' file:

Jeff Suppan's yearly batting avaerage against is .298, .298, and .309, yet he has been run out to the mound for 545 innings.

When does he go from innings eater to innings destroyer?(Sorry, not Stuff, Junk )

Question time:

This player will be taken in the second round of most NFBC drafts:

Yet, he has never reached triple digits in rbi or runs, and never reached double digit home runs, he is also not a pitcher, who is he?

The answer will be at the end of the post

Only two closers have averaged 40 saves during this timeframe

K Rod and Joe Nathan

Jason Marquis(38) and Livan Hernandez (33)have won more games than Wandy Rodriquez(32)

John Lannan(3.91) had a better ERA than Justin Verlander(3.95)

Livan Hernandez has thrown more innings (568) than Jered Weaver (548).... yes folks, Livan Hernandez has averaged 190 innings over the last three years...ERA'S OF 4.93, 6.05, and 5.44....

A few trends that may alarm,

Bobby Jenks WHIP, 2007-.088, 2008- 1.10, 2009- 1.28

Jonathon Papelbon

WHIP, 2007- .077, 2008- .095, 2009- 1.15

James Shields BAA, 2007- .247, 2008- .254, 2009- .275

The answer to the question is Jacoby Ellsbury

I think Suppan has his uses. I don't think teams have any illusions about what he provides. He is going to be a 5 ERA guy who is below average and about as good as any other fringy major leaguer, but they are going to get innings out of him and they can season their minor leaguers while he does the job. It's a useful piece for a team that doesn't have MLB-ready talent in their system and is transitioning toward the future rather than trying to win in the present. Or a team that has no one else and wants to know exactly what they're getting from that spot in the rotation. The brew crew is probably more the latter.

Good three year stuff.

Thanks for the thumbs up, Brian.

Suppan will be getting 13 million dollars this year for his 5.00 ERA. Another bad contract for the Brewers. With that contract the Brewers will continue to run him out there, sure. Serviceable is a compliment for Suppan. He is what he is, hittable.

I disagree with rostering Suppan, Bush, and Wolf. They are "comfortable veterans". Someone a GM feels, at ease, losing with.

For me, I'd go the Billy Beane route and throw the youngsters. If a pitcher produces, Beane has a trade bonanza in three years. If they don't perform, back to the farm and bring up another kid.

Ask most fantasy owners who they would rather start on a given day, Jeff Suppan or Vin Mazzaro, I'm guessing Mazzaro would win in a landslide.

Ask the same questions of GM's, I'd bet Suppan would get the nod.

teams that do what the brewers are doing have something wrong- maybe it isn't illusions- but it is something. i don't think the 'they run a baseball team so they know what they are doing" works here. maybe bill veck would save the 13 million and have the "innings eater" day. any fan that forks over 500 bucks can pitch an inning.

Here's some stuff for you...I'm at the Planet Hollywood right now in Vegas hanging around the Pleasure Pit. When done with blackjack I go over to another area for some roulette, and to my surprise there's Chipper Jones with at least $15k in front of him. Very nice and cordial...hanging out with someone who looks to also be a ball player although I'm not sure who. In a period of 5 minutes I see Chipper lose $5k so what does he do next, puts $5k down on red to make up for his 5 minutes of losses. He wins...back to even for the few minutes I was there. People were asking how he feels the Braves will do this year...he seemed hesitant to be too confident but I did hear him mumbling about the Phillies getting Halladay. I was very tempted to ask how he felt about dealing Vazquez to the Yankees for nothing. I didn't ask, however, because he seemed to be in a good mood and I didn't want to be the one to bring him down.

I would have thought you'd find Chipper at the Hooters casino.
