Rio Room Block Is Filled In Las Vegas

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Jan 19, 2005 3:05 am

I regret to report that our NFBC room block at the Rio is completely filled and the $229 rate is no longer available. We actually were able to get twice as many rooms for our members than we had originally booked on Friday and Saturday as the reservation clerks kept providing the special rate even though we passed our quota earlier this month. But that ended on Tuesday and now the rates are......well, let's just say high!

I will check all day today for alternative spots, but if anyone else has a lead on some cheaper rooms that weekend please post them here. The combination of March Madness, the ConExpo Convention and spring break has made rooms non-existent in Las Vegas this year. I'll keep looking, but don't delay if you don't have your room in Las Vegas just yet. We want everyone who wants to compete in the NFBC in Las Vegas there if they can make it, but rooms are getting tough to find, so let's work together on this. Thanks.

Just a quick FYI: I called the Palace Station today, which is about 1.5 miles up the freeway from the Rio and they have rooms available at $169 on Thursday, and $189 on Friday and Saturday in the tower, and $149 on Thursday and $189 in the courtyard. It's obviously not as nice a hotel as the Rio, but it will get the job done and it's probably a $10 cab ride at most away. (702-367-2411)

Texas Station is five miles up the road from Palace Station and has availability at $199 on Thursday and $249 on Friday and Saturday. (702-631-8344)

There is availability at other Station hotels that are a bit farther away. Siesta Rancho has rates at $169.95 on the weekend; Boulder Station has Friday space at $129; and Sunset Station has space at $169 night.

I'll keep looking.

Rio Room Block Is Filled In Las Vegas

I posted this a few months ago. I don't know if these prices are still good, but this is the site to check:

The greatest cheap hotel site is travelaxe.com I have used this myself and the savings are frequently unbelievable. I once stayed in a Reno highrise (Golden Phoenix - formerly the Flamingo Hilton) for four days, including the weekend, for a total of $80! As far as Las Vegas is concerned, I looked up the best rates for 3 nights: Thursday, March 17 to Saturday March 19, checking out Sunday morning. There are 10 places in town with TOTAL 3 DAY rates of $122.40 (Golden Palms) to $202.76 (Fitzgerald's). Some are casinos and some aren't. You can stay for only $100.80 for all three nights in a nice casino room. That's less than $34 a night! The only problem is it's 40 miles away at Whiskey's Pete's! By the way, these prices include tax! The Westward Ho on the Strip is only $183.68 and the Lady Luck downtown is a mere $175.56. You can check the rest yourself. By the way, you can ONLY get these rates by going through the website. The reason these deals are so good is that this website hooks up with many other websites. There are no hidden catches - just that you must book from the travelaxe site. As I said before, I have used this site previously and was thrilled. Originally, it was featured in the Las Vegas Advisor. Enjoy!

Got busy and missed out on the Rio.

Just booked the Extended Stay one block away for $62 night. Gotta love that rate, especially when I pull an all nighter one of the days anyways!

I will be driving to Vegas Thursday afternoon from the "O.C."

If anyone needs a lift to/from OC or Extended stay to the Rio, let me know.

John
