30 suggestions for 30 teams that, most likely, won't happen-



Yankees- Put both Hughes and Joba in the pen and let Gaudin or somebody else be the fifth starter. Their pen instantly becomes as good as the Red Sox.



Red Sox- Platoon David Ortiz and Mike Lowell at dh.



Orioles- Make Uehara the set up man, even letting him close in situations vs. tough righties.



Blue Jays- Trade Lyle Overbay for someone that can hit leadoff. Even if it's a Willie Taveras type.



Rays- Give David Price a short leash.



Twins- Trade Delmon Young.



White Sox- Fantasy-wise, not good, but, hit Mark Teahen second. His propensity to hit ground balls will be perfect to move Pierre over to third base.



Tigers- Play Avila more than Laird.



Indians- Get something, anything for Kerry Wood, now, before he hurts himself and has no value at all. The Indians are going to be bad for a long time, Wood is an ornament.



Royals- Here, I would be President of the club, and fire Dayton Moore. They will never move forward, on the field, until this is done.



Angels- Give Brandon Wood a real chance to succeed or fail.



A's- Give up on Daric Barton.



Mariners- As soon as Milton Bradley starts being Milton Bradley, suspend him or send him down to AAA, anywhere away from the clubhouse.



Rangers- A year ago, the Rangers thought they were catching-rich with Salty, Teagarden, and Ramirez. This year, they go in thinking they are catching poor with the same trio.

Trade one, or even two, and get somebody with reliability.



Phillies- Tell Madson the closer job is his. If he does well before Lidge gets back, Lidge becomes the set-up guy.



Mets- I am the President again and fire Omar Minaya. From the slimy way he fired Willie Randolph to the poorest roster constructions, he has shown that there is in no way he should be a General Manager unless it is at a Taco Bell franchise.



Braves- Get Matt Diaz some reps at first base. Glaus will not survive the year, they'll miss Adam LaRoche.



Marlins- Chris Volstad is the new closer.



Nationals- Stephen Strasburg sees the nations capitol....in September



Reds- Fire Dusty Baker



Brewers- Eat Suppan's contract and give his innings to kids. I'd rather pay a guy to sit on the bench than give up a .300 average over the last three years.



Cubs- Give Jeff Baker the second base job, no platoon.



Cardinals- Start the year with Franklin as the closer, after failure, make Brad Penny the new closer. Forget Motte, he has 'Farnsworth Syndrome', throws hard and straight.



Astro's- Hunter Pence leads off. He is not a particularly good run producer and Houston needs it's best hitters up as often as possible.



Pirates- Trade Aki Iwamura. He is the highest paid player on the team. No matter how bad the team, Aki Iwamura should not be the highest paid player on ANY team.



Dodgers- Fire Joe Torre.



Giants- Trade for Delmon Young.



Diamondbacks- Deal Stephen Drew. The Drew's only play when they want to play,ie contract time. Let him be someone else's problem.



Padres- Trade Adrian Gonzalez for one established player and a boatload of prospects. The Padres aren't going anywhere for the next couple of years, after that, Gonzalez waves bye bye anyway.



Rockies- Trade Brad Hawpe. His value will never be higher and the Rockies have a glut of outfield talent.

Dan that's great stuff. There aren't many guys in the NFBC that could have put that list together. Well, maybe there are, but I couldn't have done it.

Baker and Fontenot are similar overall. Baker's first solid BA season against RHP in '09 was driven by a .38 BABIP, and he has no pop against righties. I think you'll get more BA and pop from Fontenot gainst RHP.

Fontenot had his chance last year and failed miserably. Baker has never had a full time job. We don't know what his 'real' numbers are. We only know them as a utility player. He needs a full time chance.

I think you'd hit about .700 with this list Dough.



I'd like to see Joe Torre and Dusty team up in some kind of venture. I'd go short.

He needs a full time chance. [/QUOTE]I watch a lot of Cubs games. Baker just looks like a solid utility IF, and the numbers back that up. Not sure what you're seeing.

Baker has thrived when playing consecutive days. Fontenot had that same chance last year, and was miserable. A platoon would be totally like the Cubs. Doing what did not work last year. Baker played in two or three week stretches for the Rockies and put up great numbers.

Most of Baker's at bats last year were vs righties and he hit .291. The Cubs KNOW what they have in Fontenot every day. If Baker fails, they go back to the Fontenot failure or trade.

What do the Cubs have to lose? (Insert your own joke here )

Why give David Price a short leash as he finally started to put it together in the 2nd half winning 7 games after the all star game which lead the team.He also posted a 1.20 whip after the break and a 2.4 stike out to walk.Just 25 years old and he will break out this year.

Agreed with many but not this one.

We disagree on Price, Eddie.



In my mind, he needs more seasoning. He can be a dominant pitcher if treated correctly. The Rays have rushed him.

Wins are a meaningless statistic when comparing Price and the other starters.



As bad as Paul Maholm was last year, he still had a 2-1 ratio. Tampa has other hurlers chomping at the bit. Giving Price a short rope, gives them a chance to succeed, and gives Price the chance to better his skills at a lower level and maybe save some innings for late in the year.

If Price is as good as you think, a short rope should be all he needs anyway.

What do the Cubs have to lose? (Insert your own joke here ) In 07 Baker hit 222, in 08 he hit 268. Last year he hit 288 with a highly inflated BABIP - adjust it down to a normal level and he would've been around 250.



Fontenot in 08 hit 305. Last season he had a low BABIP which led to a 236 avg. In spite of the low BA he had both a higher contact rate and more pop than Baker. In fact, in 3 yrs Baker has never had a contact rate as high as Fontenot.



To sum up, Baker is slower, has less power and makes less contact. Baker is 29, one year younger. C'mon Dough, just because he's an ex-Rockie doesn't make him better than a home-grown Cub! (insert your joke here)

MLB needs an Oakland Raider franchise so there's a home for players like this (and a fan base to go along with it). Where's Al Davis when you need him?
