One More Spot For NFBC Main Event: 435 Teams

Posted: Wed Mar 10, 2010 12:26 pm
by Greg Ambrosius
We already have more than 420 teams for the NFBC's Main Event and we still have to get two teams into the Atlantic City main event the first weekend. We need to finalize that location tomorrow and move on with the first weekend's draft spots. But in order to accommodate them, we need to push to 435 teams overall.

That isn't going to be a problem from the inquiries we are still getting. I also want to lock up an eighth full league in Las Vegas and be done there. We currently have 115 teams there for the second weekend and a nice, round 120 teams, 8 full leagues would make my day. I think we can do that. Then we'll see what happens in Chicago and New York, but maybe we combine that last league there and make this a nice, round 435 overall.

Here's what the Bellagio looks like on March 27th. You have one last chance to jump in there if you're planning to come to Sin City with us. FIVE SPOTS LEFT!!! Thanks all.

How many guys are signed up to do the main event/classic for both weekends. Just wondering (if too much trouble to get info don't worry about it).

Rich No problem. I had posted this before. The total was right around 30. So our number of unique owners will likely still top the 390 we had last year.

I'll say one thing: I think if I opened the first weekend to an online main event I'd get 15 more NFBC owners who would take a second main event team. We didn't really do that because we wanted the live events to succeed, but I know a lot of folks would jump in if we offered it. I'm hearing from folks tonight already asking for that.

With Atlantic City now full, we are headed towards 435 for the main event. We already have 423 and a few more owners ready to jump in. My goal is to now:

Fill up 8 full leagues in Las Vegas (we are 5 short)

At the very least combine CHI-NY's final main.

Keep 'em coming. I know we're going to get to 435 and then announce the altered league prizes. It's all good right now!!!! :D Do you feel it with me? :D

Thanks,

John GREAT NEWS John. We have added another one to the Bellagio second weekend and if you jump in that would put us at 117 there. We will fill up an eighth league and then close out Las Vegas. I'm very happy with how that is playing out in Las Vegas for both weekends.

We also got another signup for New York on the second weekend, so we are moving closer to 435 and are on pace to announce these leagues and draft spots by next Thursday at the latest. We announced the first weekend's draft slots on Friday of this week (coming today), but we are hosting live drafts next Friday in three different cities. I will be in Las Vegas next Thursday and hopefully can load all of those leagues online inbetween my March Madness first round bets. Stay tuned for details on the times for draft slots, but that seems like the plan.

Sound good? ;)

Yes, this is our 7th year together. You've gone through more during that time than anyone else and survived to tell about it. AWESOME to have you back at the Bellagio. After our last phone call, I didn't think you'd ever watch baseball again!! :D Look for my call now.

What is this, our 7th year? John Dean and Dennis Young are now in for the Classic Bellagio, so we're at 117 now there. We'll get to 120 and close it out, filling up the final spots in Chicago and New York. We're definitely going to hit 435, which is good for everyone. Stay tuned and look for draft spots in the next week.

We moved two steps closer to the 435 mark today as we added two more main event signups. Virgilio Ramos of Guaynbo, Puerto Rico has jumped into the main event at Citi Field and he also signed up for a Live Double Play. AWESOME!! We now have participants from Puerto Rico, Norway, Australia and I think Belgium in the NFBC. We've gone International this year!!! :D Great stuff.

George Puhl of Metamora, Illinois is already doing the main event at St. Louis and he was very disappointed to see the Auction League fall through there. But he did the right thing today and jumped into the main event in Chicago, moving us closer with our fourth league there.

I think that leaves us with SEVEN SPOTS LEFT!!! Three of them are definitely going to Las Vegas as I'm filling up eight full leagues there if I have to play myself!!! :D Just kidding, I can't do that (although I know you'd love this bum in the competition :D ). So we have time to get four more in New York and Chicago and then see what things look like. But 428 right now is a good number, don't you think?

Thanks guys for jumping in and let's keep things rollin'.

Let's do the math....

30 teams x $1300 = $39,000.00

$39,000.00 - $17,600.00 for two leagues at current prize levels = $21,400.00

$21,400.00 x 80% = approx. $17,000.00

$17,000.00/29 leagues = approx. $600 per league

New league prizes

1st - $5,500.00

2nd - $2,600.00

3rd - $1,300.00

Voila.

Voila. Good math, Glenn! :D

However, since these are 15 team leagues, I honestly wouldn't mind seeing 1st and 2nd stay where they are, and.....

3rd place move up $100 to $1,400 (so you can "technically" say you made $$$....minus Uncle Sam, travel, added draft fee, etc.)

4th place get $500 for a good solid effort.

Might sound a bit like "charity" to some, but finishing in the top 27% in these leagues is no easy feat. Then again, maybe I am just stinging because I finished 4th in what I considered a pretty tough league last year.

I'll be happy with whatever, as I plan on winning my league! :D $5,000 is good for me, I'm not greedy!

Voila. Not quite. First of, the distribution is more like 72-73%, not 75% or 80%, which is still quite good. Then you're applying the percent to the net difference ($21,400), not to the gross ($39,000). By your logic, they will distribute $34,600 (17k + 17.6k) out of $39K or 89%. Unless Greg feels Christmasy, it's not gonna happen.

$350 per league or about 72%. Take it to the bank and be happy with it.
