Finished Online DP Draft

We just finished League 2 of the Online DP Draft. Pretty interesting. Shawn Childs picked from the 6 spot and the owner in the 7 spot took pitchers with each of the first 7 picks. That in itself basically changed the nature of the draft because it resulted in a pitcher run earlier than you would expect

I was 9:

C Hernandez, Ramon (22.4)

C Zaun Gregg (28.4)

1B Dunn, Adam (6.4)

3B Wright, David (2.4)

CI LaRoche,Adam (9.9)

2B Phillips, Brandon (3.9)

SS Aybar, Erick (16.4)

MI Kendrick, Howie (10.4)

O Crawford, Carl (1.9)

O Lind, Adam (4.4)

O Span, Denard(11.9)

O Kubel, Jason (14.4)

O Ludwick, Ryan (15.9)

U Willingham, Josh (19.9)

BN Prado, Martin (21.9)

BN LaPorta, Matt (26.4)

BN Desmond, Ian (30.4)

SP Santana, Johan (5.9)

SP Nolasco, Ricky (7.9)

SP Rodriguez, Wandy (8.4)

SP Webb, Brandon (12.4)

SP Slowey Kevin (17.9)

SP Bedard Erik (20 4)

SP Myers Brett (23.9)

RP Qualls, Chad (13.9)

RP Lindstrom,Matt (18.4)

BN Madson Ryan (24.4)

BN Kennedy Ian (25.9)

BN VandenHurk. Rick (27.9)

BN Howell J.P. (29.9)

As usual, things never go as planned. My catchers blow, but overall I'm pretty happy. A good mix of speed/average guys and power guys.

I was very surprised to see Phillips there at 33.

I panicked a bit on the Santana pick; 4 guys I had in the queue went with the 4 picks before.

Span, WIllingham, and Wandy were good value.

I don't like the Kubel pick at all.

I'm big fans of Kennedy and Vandenhurk, so I figured I could take a chance on Webb and, to a lesser extent, Bedard.

Not a fan of taking Bedard, Webb, and Myers...too many question marks there for me. But like you said, you like Kennedy and Vandenhurk so if they come through and either Webb or Bedard does too, you're fine. Also, in a 12-team league, I like to see more than 1 closer that's locked into a job, although Lindstrom, Madson, and Howell you have some good speculative save opps there. The offense I think is servicable for a 12-team league. Good luck.

Also, I'd love see what the 7 pitcher team looks like.

Looks light on run production and BA. Starting staff will suffer with all of those injury risks and your pen is below average. A team so ugly only Satan could love.

On the bright side, tons of help available in the FA pool of those 12-teamers.

$5 says this guy has 2 or more double play teams and wants to try one with all pitching first to see if it works.

2 top catchers - first time for everything in a 12 team league with only 24 catchers being drafted, catchers should slip considerably. in the 12 teamer i won last year, i punted catchers till the end. in the 12 teamers i lost, i took catchers early.

In the past I have mostly drafted crappy catchers, I figured I would pick some better ones this time.

50 seems like a value pick, depends on who he passed on. again, with only 24 catchers being selected, the "worst" catchers aren't that bad.

did i read it correctly, childs was in this draft at the 6 hole, and passed on both martinez and mccann? if so, that should be enough evidence.
position scarcity matters a lot less in a 12 teamer than a 15 teamer. in a 12 teamer, i try to go best available player (regardless of position). with so many good players available at the end, scarcity doesn't play a role IMO.

still, martinez and mccann "look good" were you got them.

The draft didn't have a good flow to it. It is tough going from a 15 team mind set to a 12 team.

In these drafts, there are so many different ways to go to start your team. If you pick the right style and the draft breaks right, you could have a great team.

I wanted to start a team with Mauer at 6, but I wasn't planning on taking Ellsbury in the 2nd round. When the draft made it to the 5th round, I didn't like the start of my team so I gamble on Reyes.
i also said in an earlier chat that i'd be looking at mccann in the 4th round this year (doubt he gets there). that would put him around pick 45-50 in a 15 teamer. at least in my book.
