Free Agency Opens For All Leagues Tonight

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Mar 30, 2010 6:39 am

Okay, as we stated earlier, we will open free agency for all leagues tonight once every league is available to their team owners. We have everything in place for the free agent bidding process -- with the Conditional Bids process -- in place and ready to go. We did not want to unveil this before tonight for a couple of reasons:

1. We needed to input all rosters for all leagues and we are just finalizing those now. This is easily the fastest we have ever loaded leagues after the live events as in the past it took us several days before leagues were loaded. Everything is entered now and we are just finalizing all of the leagues to make sure there were no mistakes when rosters were entered at the live events. In the future, we will replace the sticker person with somone on a laptop and be done with this immediately.

2. Another reason we are waiting until tonight is because we took the feedback we received in Las Vegas and implemented the requested changes immediately. John had a meeting with his IT staff Monday morning and asked the guys to implement these changes before the first FAAB period. Many of the changes involve the suggestions KJ Duke made weeks ago about displaying multiple bids on the same page, etc. John not only listened to our owners, but he immediately took those suggestions to heart and got them in the system. They are finalizing these programming changes now, so thanks to John, Cory and his team, and thanks to KJ, RT, Shawn and the rest of the guys for leading the way.

This is a TEAM effort that includes the players. This is how it should be done. This isn't how it was done entirely in the past, even though that's not a knock on anything we did before. We just never had nine programmers at our disposal like we have now and I'm proud of the fact that we can have a group meeting on Friday of our live drafts and have John's team cranking out site changes on Monday per their suggestions. That stuff doesn't just happen everywhere. Great, great job everyone.

We're on pace to make all of this happen. There may be hiccups or things that need to be addressed, but Fanball's IT team is standing by and ready to correct anything that may happen. If you see something, please politely ask us to update this and we'll get it done. Knock out the doom and gloom posts and get on board with us because we are going to hit a HOME RUN on all of this!!! :D C'mon, I'm getting EXCITED!!

See ya tonight in the free agent market!

I know there is a certain strategy to drafting and dropping, and avoidance of drafting "rookie" players...but it sure would make the free agent process a bit easier if any player drated is in all the leagues player pools.

Easier, yes. Better, your own opinion.

I know it was shot down pretty quickly before, but it sure "seems" like it would simplify the process of the "free agent" player pool, as well has has a certain "fairness...all player pools are equal across the main event" to it.

Having to treat each league like it's own competition re: player pools has its own strategies and fun, but boy that must be a drag.

Not sure I agree here, but congrats on a nice spin! :D

Between that and your love of the Health Care bill...you're sending me mixed vibes this morning!

Lance, you're sending me mixed vibes AGAIN!! I don't even understand your posts here and it's not even cocktail hour. I know you're trying to insult me above, but I guess I missed the punchline.

And I've been too busy to even understand the health care bill, not to mention have you say here that I love it. I just know the Dems and Republicans are acting like the same folks we have here and I hate it all. That's all I was saying.

Having to treat each league like it's own competition re: player pools has its own strategies and fun, but boy that must be a drag. Lance, each league IS it's own competition. And in fact, some people are only in one league. So to change the rules to help those in multiple leagues manage their teams more easily doesn't seem like the best decision.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm a strong believer in allowing the rookies to be picked up once they arrive in the majors if they weren't originally drafted. Without trades during the season, free agency is very important to our game and I think this rule makes the most sense for the fairness of the competition. I may be wrong, but there's enough who I agree with me to keep this rule intact.

"This spreading of fear has almost a political tone to it, kind of like the health care issue and I'll be damned if I'll sit back and let this crap continue."

I could reasonably think the only people spreading fear re: that bill are non-democrats, and thus deduce you may have chosen a side.

I see now you were merely throwing the health crap bill in for some sort of current event effect, and you were just venting without chosing a side.

My mistake.

Oh boy. Lance, admit it, you're taking a nip earlier than usual today!! :D

Sorry you couldn't make it to the main event at the Bellagio this year. You would have loved it and then you'd really have a reason to give me crap. The sportsbook was ELECTRIC every day and the Bellagio sportsbook was packed out past the Poker Room. The nightclubs in the Bellagio were also packed with the female persuasion that didn't care about college basketball games. So there was a nice, nice mix at the Bellagio that I know you can relate to. ;)

I love the Bellagio, and good things are not free so much in Vegas like they were when the mob ruled. Now every part of every part has to show a profit. I don't mind paying a little extra for a great memory.

As for my chippy mood...I blame Fanball!!!

Their Fantasy Sports magazine with the teeny tiny print on the stat lines of the players forced me to accept the fact I need reading glasses. Geez...40 sure comes with its share of fun!

Now my 7 year old is faking he needs glasses for school, cause he sees Daddy with his Ben Franklin end-of-the-nose jobbers on trying to see if that's a 129 or 139 for Adams Jones games played in 2009...add glasses...Ahhh 119!!! Even my wife and kids were trying to borrow them because the 1.75 (magnification I guess) made everything SO BIG and easy to read! :D :D :D

I'm always gonna be a good hearted thorn in your side, Greg! :D

As promised baby!! :D

Okay, here are a few tidbits from our IT department:

The Free Agents page is LIVE and out there under "Stats" and "Free Agents"

We are working on some performance enhancements that will help the initial load of the page. The current layout and performance are a direct result of feedback we received in Las Vegas, so thanks to KJ, Shawn, RT, Quahogs, KOQ and others who talked with John out there.

We have added a statement to support the coming performance enhancements - but it will take some time to finish all of this.

In addition - the Set Lineup page has been corrected for IE - and we have taken the browser detection down. We do not have any outstanding issues with IE.

Maybe I need more coffee....but how do we bid on a player? I assume that we are to click on the player's name, but when I do, I get taken to an Owner's Edge player profile page and I don't see any sort of "pick up player" type button....

Just to clarify for week 2 Auction drafters: should we expect rosters and FAAB tonight as well?

Thanks!

Greg- super league is still not loaded from first weekend. Guys, not everything is loaded at once. This is still a work in progress but we should have all or most of the leagues very soon. They are going about it quickly, but efficiently. Please don't post everytime one of the leagues isn't posted. We're working on it and should have them all loaded very soon. We'll get there, I promise.

couple issues i noticed very quickly...

1. when sorting columns it takes about 15 seconds to reload. that is a lifetime.

2. it looks like you can enter conditional bid amounts for MORE than the primary bid. i thought we weren't doing that this year?

3. the system will allow you to save a "character" bid amount such as 'a' or 'b'

Looks like I can't drop a different player in conditional example primary bid an Nathan drop Broxton, conditional bid on Everett drop Hanley.

The PLUS side...

- Seems to work on Internet Explorer, and graphical page is now working on IE.

The NEGATIVE side....

- I noticed one player I wanted to bid on, and he isn't "in the pool".

- The reloading thing is tedious. Hopefully that is one of those things that will improve over the week.

- I didn't see a way to "search" for a specific player.
