All right folks let's bring it for this Wednesday. We can talk about anything that's on your mind ranging from the NFBC to baseball in general or all of the interesting goings ons in the fantasy industry.
So let the chat begin

CDM's lawsuit is obviously the big news of the day.
Is there a chance of that affecting the licensing of other sites?
Can we expect injunctions of some kind?
Could is change the date of "National Fantasy Baseball Day"?
If there are any attorneys out there, I'd love to hear an expert opinion on this.

I'm going to try and do this at the same time as I'm doing my taxes
Hope I don't put batting averages on line 32

I'll let Greg address the particulars to whatever extent he wishes, but there's no question this lawsuit will be followed very closely given its potential ramifications.

Well I don't think after that article that the NFBC will be able to hide

We're processing the credit cards for the NFBC now. If you signed up for the Ultimate, we're holding off on those charges until we get everything finalized with that event.

I'm still not completely clear on who is and isn't eligible to be drafted on March 19th. Are there any classes of players that are off limits? For example, minor leaguers not on the 40 man or Cuban ball players?

What will happen in the Ultimate League if there is an odd number of teams? For example if we have 22 instead of 15 for the draft. Will you just boot out the last 7 who signed up or will you make it a 22 team league? I'm really hoping it stays at 15.

Wouldn't it be safe to say that Fantasy Sports Magazine owes its loyal readers a duty to report on stories exactly like the CDM MLBAM lawsuit, as the premiere fantasy sports publication. Realizing that as the leaders of the NFBC you are interested parties, unless you are parties to the suit there is no duty to be silent.

So even if a minor league player not on the 40-man roster he can be drafted or bid on in an auction.

I've seen a couple of potential changes that may or not be made throughout reading these pages:
Are we allowing a 3rd member? Personally i say no but I guess its up to the people
How is draft order going to be determined? usually its random but i've seen some ideas being thrown around about bidding FA dollars for spots. Again I like the old "random" way.
Thanks

John Hunt wrote in Sports Weekly "...on Friday, MLBAM e-mailed companies that run fantasy baseball online games, telling them they would not be granted a license to operate those games."
Did you guys receive such an email? Or was that email sent to everyone except for the 4-5 big and 12-13 small sites that MLBAM has decided to license, as reported in USA Today?
I don't understand what MLBAM thinks they're going to accomplish. If my favorite game or stat service is squashed by MLBAM and there are other licensees out there, I am certainly going to go to one of them instead of MLBAM.

Jason, we're still in the decision-making process as far as the third member. We've been soliciting everyone's opinions on this and once we make that decision we'll definitely let everyone know.
As far as the draft order, so far nothing has changed. We'll have a random draft order for each league once we reach our 300 team limit.

hmmmm, where to plug in upton?? Ahhh ok. We're processing the auction leagues now as well. The only one we're holding off on is the Ultimate event. But the NFBC draft and our auction leagues are currently being processed. Sorry for not understanding the question.

NYY Greatest Choke In Sports history Our goal is to fill complete leagues, so let's aim for that first and foremost. If we have an odd number of teams, we could shift the league numbers a bit or the teams that sign up later may end up not getting into the event. Honestly, that's something we're going to have to play by ear as we go along. Again, our No. 1 goal is to fill full leagues for that event so if we can do that then we won't have to worry about coming up with a Plan B.

If there are any attorneys out there, I'd love to hear an expert opinion on this. I talked with MLB today and they are sending out e-mails to many FSTA companies today to offer deals that would allow companies with under 5,000 participants a fair licensing agreement. That doesn't help CDM or any of the other companies that were denied licenses, but it's something they feel will allow more companies to stay in business. All I can say is there hasn't been any cease and desist orders or injunctions sent out against anyone at this point and I think CDM's suit is basically to allow them to continue to run their business until a court decides whether a license for stats is needed or not.
