I stand corrected then. Initial reports were he was missing a huge chunk of season. Either way, ouch.

Sounds like the year if it is being repaired:

If a partially torn meniscus was repaired - You should expect four to six months until full recovery.

If it's being removed the recovery time is much shorter.

Six months is what an ACL is worth these days. Meniscus tears are usually bad, but I think Gekko is closer to the time frame that it usually is.

Depends. I have had meniscus tears on both knees and I was walking without crutches the next day.

A friend had the same operation and had trouble for months.

I'm beginning to sway toward Ronny Shandler with the waiting on catchers and closers. Baseball is game played by a bunch of millionaire *ussy's.

I had surgery on a Friday back in Sept '05 for a "multi-factorial & complex medial meniscus tear".....I rode my bike to work the following Monday.

This isn't an ACL or PCL injury. I'm no doctor, but I work w/ many of them who read these types of cases every day. I've had a very similar injury. My guess is he's back by Memorial Day.

I remember back in 2004/2005 the Baseball Prospectus folk were pretty sure there was no way Mauer could stay at Catcher because of problems with his meniscus.

They arent even sure it's limited to the meniscus. There may be more damage; further tests tomorrow. It doesnt sound good.

Grab a baseball, go outside, warm up, then bounce up from a catchers crouch and throw a ball as hard as you can like you were trying to throw out someone attempting to steal 2nd base. Tell me how much leverage your knees provide in both the crouch, explosive bounce as well as the step into throw. It's amazing how much torque is put on the knee. No way he's back playing catcher anytime soon. As a DH, maybe.

Riding a bike is very easy on the knees...that's early rehab and an alternative exercise for joggers with bad knees.

If you drafted him you probably did so by the 11th or 12th rd at the latest....so I'd hang onto him in case he does turn out to be the 6 million dollar man and makes a speedy recovery. I would LOVE IT ;) if the Montero owners in the lge's I'm in would drop him!

Hell I'm holdin' on to Posey :D !

I had a torn meniscus and the recovery period was at least 4 months. Of course I was 33 and not 23. And it was a very serious tear. There are various degrees of injury and Montero could have any of them.

If news comes out tomorrow that Montero will miss more than the expected 4-6wks, you just nabbed a catcher with 15 HR power. Can you stomach the avg? All depends on your team construct. No doubt if you wanted him, you likely had to up your bid after his HR and 5 rbis today.
