Joe T - you may well be a poker expert - there are thousands of them out there, but I think you are a little to quick to dismiss the event fee as high given that we are asking a casino to give us room, tables, dealers etc. for a private tournament on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

JoeT, your comment about the $35 entry fee being "ridiculously high" for a $200 buy-in tourney is probably an overstatement. I know the "Bike" is having a tournament in March and the entry fee for their $200 tourney is around $20-25. So, it's all relative.

That being said, I think most of us would agree that being allowed to have a (hopefully) PRIVATE poker tourney in Vegas on what is arguably their 3rd busiest weekend of the year, is well worth a few extra bucks.

BTW, here's a link to an article on CardPlayer.com that mentions Tom Elias' work for the poker tourney at the football event.

Count me in for the poker tournament. What's the minimum number of players we need to have this tournament?

Okay, we have rooms available at Union Plaza for $65 on Wednesday, Thursday and $85 on Friday and Saturday. Poker players get first dibs if you want them. We had 30 rooms set aside and some have been taken already. Tom said we need 30 players to make this a go and we're shooting for 50 to 70. I think we can reach that.

E-mail me if you want the special room rates. Tom is well respected in Las Vegas. The Union Plaza is giving us a helluva deal on room rates at this late date in Las Vegas and it's good for last minute NFBC signups as well. And a $35 vig for a Private game, which it will be, during this weekend seems fair enough. This isn't an online game, it's a private poker tournament for baseball junkies on quite possibly the busiest night of 2005 in Las Vegas.

I wish I could convince the Leaderboard Sports guys to participate as I think there's 20+ guys there. If the private game doesn't work out, let's all play poker downtown.

Tell your friends and co-managers about the NFBC private poker tournament - we need more signups and it will be a great event.

Not much of a poker player but if you need a certain minimum to make the tournament work, I'm in. I can think of worse ways to spend the money. I've done most of them.

It's your fault Greg that the LBS guys won't be there ;) . Too many baseball drafts that weekend :D . Saturday night is the only night we can hold our annual get together. Hopefully you'll have plenty without us.

I did say that its a private event and thats why its so high, if $35 guarantees a private event that is well run then its worth it. A normal $200 tournament with a $35 entry fee would be robbery.

Wish I knew about those hotel rooms earlier before I made reservations at the luxurious Wild Wild West because it was the only place that wasn't $300 a night.

Joey, we still have rooms available for you at $65 and $85 if you want to save some money and use the rest for poker. Shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll hook you up. Same with anyone else who needs a spot to reside yet during that week and weekend.

I think many are flying out sunday morning. I think Thursday would have been the better day.

The other point is most don't want to go downtown on a busy Saturday night. Downtown from the strip trying to catch a cab both ways would be a nightmare. Bus service both ways from the Rio would have made it easier.

The tournament is Saturday night (will be over before midnight), so what does people leaving on Sunday have to do with signups?

There are lots of people not arriving until Friday, so they definitely could not play in a Thursday night tournament.

I played (and lost rather soundly) in the WCOFF football event. I thought it was great and cant wait to do it again. Gentlemen, step up. The basketball games for the day is over, the girls will still be dancing when we are done....no excuses.

Last call for these rooms at Union Plaza for the weekend and you don't have to play poker to get them at $65 during the week and $85 on the weekend. Use code Fantasy Baseball Leagues and do the following:

Call 1-800-634-6575 ask for room reservations and you must use the following code to receive the

correct price - "Fantasy Baseball Poker Tournament, Tom Elias" - for

Reservations.

Thanks Greg but I prepaid my room through Yahoo Hotels, so getting another room wouldn't save me any money.

Hey Poker Players - we need you to sign up and join us - very few paid responses so far. The tournament that Tom Elias ran for WCOFF participants last September was terrific and this should be a great way to relax and have fun with other NFBC players after the draft.

Okay, this poker tournament is a go, so let's get the official signups going. Herb Eroh and his partner Brian Starkman just e-mailed me and they're good to go. We need at least 30 Tom said and I think we'll get there, but 50-70 would be ideal. I don't know if I have all the names right here or not, so chime in if I've missed you or if I've posted you twice:

NFBC Poker Entrants

1. Captain Hook

2. KJ Duke

3. Sportsbettingman

4. UFS

5. George Beason

6. Jesse Herron

7. Dustin Ashby

8. Stanley Kaye

9. Herb Eroh

10. Brian Starkman

11. Mike Minotti

12. Pezmanjr

13. Eric Ogawa

Thanks to all and have fun with this. Tom Elias runs a good event and this will definitely be a PRIVATE game of NFBC members and their co-managers/spouses. Saturday night will be busy everywhere in Vegas, so this could be the best way to get in on a night of poker.

You'll have made an important contribution and will be on your way to the dancing girls before you know it.

It's not about dancing girls at strip clubs or wanting to focus on the pot odds of going all in on a pair of 7's when a flush hand is showing. Just a friendly gathering ;)

There seemed to be a lot more interest in this today as several guys said they either signed up or were signing up for this. Hang tight everyone as I think we're getting more interest here. I'll work with Tom to stay on top of the signups here, but there's still a lot of time between now and March 19th.

Thought we would see more sign-ups by now. It is just a little friendly competition.

Where are all the poker players?
