rumor is that it is Mark Teixeira. I have no idea if it's true, but that's what I've heard.

UPDATE: I have learned that the PED suspension is NOT a New York player. WFAN (and other sources) are reporting and/or speculating otherwise.



10:28 A.M. Baseball Prospectus' Will Carroll tweeted this first yesterday afternoon, and I have since confirmed it with a baseball source: a major league player is going to be suspended for a PED violation, possible as early as this week.



I could not confirm the player's identity, but my source tells me that it's a "semi-big" name, though not a "huge" name. I imagine that, once the name is revealed, we'll have more fun arguing about what being a "semi-big" player truly means than we will wondering why he was not a bigger name despite taking PEDs.

Great reporting. He has part of a story and wants credit for breaking the story without the most important element, the name.



I can do that too...

Someone famous will die. It may not be a huge name, but someone famous will die. This could be announced as early as this week. Watch for it.

If it is a pitcher, it could by Huston Street. He was caught up in the Galea mess.

I thought about Penny as well. Cliff Lee?

Verlander would fit, but as a Tiger's fan I hope it's not him.



Still, he's clearly pitching 'wrong' since the season started - like he's distracted.



Other that would fit would be Lester - again... like he's distracted.



(I'm assuming the player was one of the first to know and is thus pitching while they sort out the ramifications and verify testing)

Pettitte, Clemens, and Gagne all had trouble staying healthy and wanted a quick fix...

Penny fits that mold.

On a serious note. Perhaps it's Zambrano. He looks great, lost a bunch of weight, and has been absolutely terrible this year. Lou has also speculated that this weekends rotation is not set in stone, mainly due to the return of Lilly. But he also went further and refused to answer a question about whether Zambrano was going to be in the rotation this weekend. Pretty interesting.
