Positive Bandwagon

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:00 pm

In America we are quick to jump on bandwagons. For some reason, if we pick the right bandwagon we feel better about ourselves. A bandwagon can come in the shape of a person, a thing, a movement, or whatever.

Since baseball season started we have been quick to jump on the negatives when it comes to Fanball. I'm guilty. Many others are too. There have been so many negatives, that the positives from the changes Fanball HAS made do not shine through.

I started a thread yesterday to poke fun at myself and Fanball. I thought it to be amusing and didn't give it much thought about posting it. The venom that followed that post made me want to kick my dog. I love my dog. I don't want to kick my dog.

The threats, the vile comments, personal attacks, proposing fights. I mean, c'mon!

If it was in any way due to my original post, then it was misconstrued and I apologize. It seems that Fanball's name cannot be even mentioned without frustration or anger.

Fanball is turning the corner. I thought that after they ran FAAB in record time Sunday night. I thought that with the changes that have been made already. With that corner turned I was hoping to instill a little levity. It failed miserably. Again, I apologize.

Greg and Tom don't even want to be a part of the Boards due to OUR selfishness and pettiness. Everything is What I want and what can Fanball do for me. Hell, I'm tired of it and I don't even work there!

These guys are literally at the end of their rope trying to help us navigate through Fanball while trying to wade through the negativity that persists on these Boards. They are at the end of that rope, and it is up to us whether we make a noose or throw them a life line with that rope.

Lets have one thread with positives. If you want to have fixes, start your own thread. Start a fight, make threats, bitch about the past? Same thing, start your own thread. But, that has all been done ad nauseum.

Lets pick up the pace and start a positive bandwagon. We had an FAAB that ran in less than 11 minutes Sunday night. I don't remember that happening before.

I can now look at team pages and live standings. Improvements have been made. And yet, hardly a mention. If there has been a positive thought, most are followed with the qualifyer of, "Now, if you can do this....". Let's not do that.

Lets put our selfish feelings aside and enjoy what we do have. If you can't enjoy it, compete this year, and don't come back next year. No need to leave a turd in the sandbox before you go.

Look, I know I am leaving myself open to the Grumpy Gus' of the world and that's fine, take your best shot. I am going to enjoy the rest of the season and hope like Hell the momentum can be turned where Greg and Tom even want to make another go of this. Right now, I don't think they do.

You guys know I'm not a brown noser. I just love this idea that Greg came up with several years ago and do not want it ruined by me or you. Hell, we haven't even been here long enough to christen Childs into the Hall of Fame yet!

I had the best experience in the NFBC I've ever had in St Louis. It was more like a family get together than everybody competing for a large prize. I used to feel that family on the Boards. I haven't during the last two weeks.

Let's get it back.

Shill.... :D J/K

Well said Dan. I think its important that something like this be brought out from a respected longtime veteran of this contest. Nicely done.

I've actually had to re-work my workout routine of late just in case these boards get tougher.

I'm half decent at the ninjy chop but oddly enough I'm weak at Judy Chop... we have a few ML batters who could pull it off, though.

Be good around here, or I'll have to use this stuff!!!!

I've been studying a master to learn technique:

Best experience ever in the NFBC was in St. Louis.

What set St. Louis aside from all my previous drafts in Vegas or the one after St Louis in Chicago was the arrangement of food.

Food was available to those drafting in Las Vegas, Chicago, and New York DURING the draft.

What set St. Louis apart was that after the draft, and the perusal of draftboards, we were led to a dining room area where we could all order off the menu. While waiting for our food, I was lucky enough to talk to the Slacker Bros and the Brady Bros, and other players about the nuances of our drafts, what we were thinking about different players, etc., all while waiting for our food.

During dinner there were tables full of drafters buzzing about their drafts. It was the atmosphere that was missing from other events.

With food being served to us during the draft or buffet style, we pretty much go back to our spots and not converse much because there is still the task at hand.

Sitting at the draft table for four hours, drafting, is a fun experience. Talking, discussing strategies, and thoughts on players over the dinner table is a very close second. Both, that is the best.

Great Post, Dan!

Bottomline, we are all in this together, for better or worse. We all want the same thing, we want our game back and it is on the way. Improvements are coming daily. Let's keep the ball rolling.

Thanks Andy.

In my mind, we have officially turned the corner today.

I have been keeping an eye on the subjects of threads. Today is the first day since FAAB ran that first Sunday that 50% of the most recent threads do not deal with 'fixes'.

Very significant indeed

We're quick to criticize, we should be just as quick to commend. The Fanball fixes have been fast and furious.

A big salute.
