Is it me.... or are more closers killing people this year than in any recent year?
It seems to me that every other day a closer is either getting hurt, losing his job, or getting rocked.
I should have realized that closers would be my downfall this year when Kerry Wood was announced out for six weeks five minutes after I drafted him in the first weekend Main Event.
Oh to go back in time & draft Mariano for everyone of my teams.....

Glenn No Wood probably 'saved' your ERA and Whip
I drafted KRod, Fuentes and Morales for my on line team. 3 combined saves and Morales has them all.

Glenn, the good news is Gutierrez has sucked lately too. Assuming Qualls isn't injured (fingers crossed), he should bounce back. One point of interest is that he entered in a non-save situation. It's bizarre how there is some historical evidence that relievers and closers have very different stats when in closing situations and when not. He did throw 7 of 10 pitches for strikes. Didn't see the game so don't know how his velocity held up or what other factors were involved.

Wasnt a save situation but it was a tie game. I consider that the equilivent of a save situation. Same adrenaline and they know they can get a win with a good inning. I expect qualls to bounce back.
Lets get rid of saves and SB as categories. Our teams will be stacked HR hitters and fire ball starters

Lets get rid of saves and SB as categories. Our teams will be stacked HR hitters and fire ball starters I vote for the 8 real categories and a 9th category that combines SB and saves, with each save being worth 2x a SB.

To closers, the difference is like driving at Indy and on I-70.
Stolen bases and saves were among the original 8 categories. Runs and strikeouts were added to make it 5x5. Your ninth category would make saves even more valuable than they are now.

Glenn Glenn,
The glass half-full perspective would be that Rasmus did most of the damage.
And that Lindstrom pick is working out ok for you. I didn't think he would be capable of closing games.
Too early to speculate about Q losing his job although he showed signs of trouble last year as well. At least he seems to have a long leash as there is no one to step into that role right now.

Unfortunately, I was a Quallis buyer
Fortunately, I didnt buy into the Aaron-Harang-comeback-hype. He's cooked.

New scenerio.....
You're down 16-0, ninth inning of a lost cause.
Do you throw in your worst mop-up man?
No, let's bring our closer into a situation where almost all closers produce stellar numbers  and let's watch him give up 6 baserunners & 4 runs in an inning destroying fantasy ERA's & whip's across the land.
Imagine being a Main Event league Dotel owner right now....
Oh wait, I am one.
I freakin' hate closers.

You beat me to the post. At least two of the runs were unearned.
Wasn't "Runs Produced" one of the original categories (R+RBI-HR)? We used to use that (and I hated it) in my local leagues way back in the '80's.

It was fun hearing broadcasters say that like it was a meaningful stat. That gwrbi could come in the third inning of a game with hardly any pressure on the hitter. Not a good stat and am glad it never had legs.
I've never played in a 'runs produced' league.
