Orioles manager Dave Trembley’s media session was chock full of tidbts today. We’ll have an in-depth notebook later, but here are some of the main highlights:
* The biggest news, perhaps: Trembley said that right now he has no closer, that he is going to go with whoever can get outs, and that he is hoping someone seizes the job.
GEKKO TRANSLATION: Jimmy Johnson's ride as interim closer is OVER (why else would Trembley say that today).
Enter someone with closing experience, someone who has done it before, someone who is still in most FAAB pools. Enter. Koji. Uehara.
Quick, check your FAAB pool and see if he is there. You still might get him at a mini-discount this Sunday. Starting bid should be $100+.
I'll make sure to remind everyone later in the week. Wouldn't want anyone to miss out on this.

Now I know why you're considered The King of Hype....
- You hype Smoak as the second coming of Lou Gehrig and say $500 MIGHT get him....yet you got him in neither of your Main Event teams where the runner up bids were 422 & 401.
- You hype Young as someone who will get 50 steals with a full time job, even though he only had 4 in 30 games last year....a 20 steal pace.
- Now you hype Uehara as a $100 closer even though he's still not even off the DL, hasn't been named the closer, and Gonzales is due off the DL in a couple weeks.
What's next?
Max Ramirez the next Johnny Bench?
I'll give you credit though....you're pretty good at getting money off the table.

- smoak could be very good hitting half his games in texas. i never said i would bid $500, just what i thought he'd go for.
young is a guy who can steal at a 50sb pace. no question about it. i read in the offseason that the rockies really wanted to find a true leadoff hitter...get on base, steal bags. young could be the guy, but more than likely he gets sent back down. IF he gets the fulltime gig, he could literally win some leagues for owner since he is MI eligibile. think of him as a fast brian roberts
Uehara - trembley said he doesn't have a closer today. what does that mean for the guy who was closing, johnson. it means his time is up and he turns back into a pumpkin in a few days. mikey gonzo is done for the year. that memo went out a few weeks ago. kam is back in minors. Trembley is ON RECORD as saying his 1 and 1A closer options were on the DL, so jimmy johnson was last resort. 1A is Uehara. He's due to be activated off DL later this week. Please note his injury was non-arm related.
enjoy!

I'm not saying any of these guys don't have value.
I'm just saying that I'm pretty sure none of them will end up on your team and you're hoping to get their price up.
I like the strategy....and I've read that you employ it liberally....just the first time I noticed it. Good job.
You're a helluva player Mark as proven by your past finishes in this contest and your current standing atop the Main. I just find some of your battle techniques extremely entertaining.
Good luck Bud....hopefully I can make it up there and battle with ya 'til the end....would be cool as hell!
Catch ya soon,
Glenn

glenn - i have smoak on a team, young on mutiple teams (4 i think) and Uehara on a couple.
last sunday i could have went $500 for smoak or $4 for Uehara. i went $4 for Uehara. hopefully that was a better use of my faab.

The Brian Roberts over Andrew McCutcheon decision....that haunts me right now. If only I could go back in time and smack myself right now.
Good luck to you too Bro....should be a fun season.

"If I have to try something different, don't blame me for trying because at this particular point in time, I think it's open for the best man to step forward and say he wants it."
Alfredo Simon's role hasn't been defined, but Trembley indicated that the right-hander might get the chance to close.
"You never know unless you give people an opportunity, so we'll see if I do that or go in another direction," Trembley said.

That said, Meredith is warming up to get the first crack, though the Orioles are trying to take the save chance away with a couple runs.

Well three run lead for Baltimore, bottom of the 8th and Johnson pitched the top of the inning.
Here's hoping Baltimore doesn't score and Trembley tips his hand....

trembley hates johnson in closer role. WHOEVER is closing this week is just keeping the seat warm until option 1A is ready.

Hopefully he's just getting ready in case Johnson falters in his two-inning save try.
