The Indians have 5, count em F-I-V-E regulars batting below the Mendoza line. Sure it's still early but what does it say about a team when Austin Kearns is your cleanup hitter? Perennial batting title contestant Russell Branyan has the 4th highest average on the team- a staggering 250. If not for Choo, would this team be winless?



Less than Dave and Ryan Carey (I think you're a fan?), what's up with your boys?

Needless to say the Tribe's offense has been a dissapointment out of the gate. I have hope that their upcoming 9 game homestand will wake up their lumber a bit. I personally think it's time to put grady back in the leadoff spot. LaPorta could be the next one ticketed for AAA. Carlos Santana is raking there - but the team just released a statement saying they didn't want to rush him.

June still seems like the likely arrival date. That said - I think Chris Jiminez will be the next callup. He can play C, OF and 1B I and he is hitting well. Brantley won't be rushed back either I think. As for Kearns - hey stranger things have happend then a 30 year old journeyman finally having that career year - think Ryan Ludwick two years ago - I remember when Kearns first came up. He had high expectations derailed by injury after injury.



The pitching has been decent but I think David Huff's days could be numbered. Scott Lewis is back from injury and pitching well in AAA. Hector Rondon is not and Carrasco has been so-so. I think Lewis gets next crack.



No Indians fan is deluding themselves this year - but the fact that we play in the Central makes the path back to contention a lot easier than most.
