I know many people picked him up tonight (including me). He was available in all 5 of my leagues. He wasn't drafted. He was never picked up. He was demoted to the minors on Friday.

Was he a legal pickup?

I did ask Tom b4 the deadline, and he said he was legal. But for some reason I thought I remembered that players fitting his situation got removed from the FAAB pool. My mind could be playing tricks on me. Can anyone help?

King of Queens, you are the best at researching. Can you offer assistance?

Trying to figure out why you would think he isn't available to be picked up?

If a player is called up from the minors, never picked up by free agent bid in a league, and then sent back back to the minors, does he remain in that league's FA pool?

If the rules say he does stay in the free agent pol, where's Justin Masterson?

No he doesn't. He remains out of your free agent pool until he is called back up again. I hope this helps.

Here's the specific rule:

12. Free Agents

Any player who is not on a team roster within your league and is on a major league roster or once was on an NFBC team in your league is considered a free agent for that league. Even players on the MLB disabled list are eligible to be picked up during the FAAB bidding process. The player pool is deemed closed of new free agents each Sunday at 7 AM ET before the FAAB bidding deadline. Participants should note that MLB unsigned veteran free agents at the time of Draft Day are eligible to be picked up or bid on in the NFBC Classic.

I just read the rule myself....

Between the clear wording of the rule & the written precedent by Greg that you posted, it's pretty cut & dry that he's not available to be picked up.

That said, I think it's a rule that should be revisited for next year.

So what does this mean, all the Ely bids get removed and FAAB rerun in all those leagues? :(

John Ely

are there other minor leaguers who were picked up that meet this same criteria??

Time for a change.

The rule needs to be rewritten next year that anyone can be bid on. Double A, Japanese, your grandmother, whatever.

so now what? will the ely owners get him? i can't see how they could. if not, will bids be rerun?

i just can't believe the frustration level here. it's everywhere i turn. IT'S HARD ENOUGH TRYING TO BEAT THE GREAT BASEBALL MINDS IN THIS CONTEST, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE TO SPEND TIME TO BEAT THE FANBALL SYSTEM.

My recollection of the rule was same as GG's, I was surprised to see Ely picked up in my league.

Emilio Bonifacio was another pickup in my league today that would seem to fall into the same category.

THE BOOK OF ELY

Some will kill to get him in FAAB

He will kill Fanball Programmers in frustration

looks like fanball has SOME free agent scrubbing to do tomorrow. CAN SOMEONE AT FANBALL TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE FREE AGENT POOL. IT FEELS LIKE WE ARE ON A SHIP OUT TO SEA WITHOUT A CAPTAIN!

Salty was almost certainly previously-owned, and thus eligible for pickup.

BUMP.

I (and others) won't have Internet access from 6am-4.30pm today so please email all participants about what is happening to Ely and any other pickups that appear to be illegal. Thank you.
