How much dough would the Cubs have to eat to get rid of this bum?
2010 $17,875,000
2011 $17,875,000
2012 $18,000,000
They'd have to eat a horrible contract in return.

They'd have to eat a horrible contract in return. Probably cost 15m or so to move him. Far worse than him were given 10m contracts this offseason.

The Cubs are planning to stretch Zambrano out over the next several appearances to get him ready to rejoin the rotation.
I guess it was time to admit that the idiotic decision to shift Zambrano to the bullpen was an abject failure. Thanks, Lou. Everyone saw this coming, but you.

i think most miss the point of what the cubs are doing with zambrano- kj hit it on the head. plus- is he really better than the 5 that are starting? i really don't think so. hendry has really, really messed that team up and lou is getting the blame.

Carlos Silva's essence is to suck. He cannot deny his essence, only delay it. No right-thinking person would conclude that they would rather have more innings from Silva than Zambrano over the next 120 games.

It's still much better than what the M's are getting from Bradley, the one man clubhouse chemistry wrecking crew.

hell's- i agree on the silva thing- but it doesn't have anything to do with what kj was talking about. now they are putting him back in rotation. the problem for the cubs is- if they believe z sucks (which they must believe) and he stinks it up- he will be booed out of town. he might accept the trade- but who will want him? should be an interesting summer at wrigley.

my team has gone from lovable losers to a team that HAS to win and NOW for it to a good season...that is a good thing in my book.
At least they are trying different **** and doing whatever they think it will take to win...
its not like the cubs were in first when they put Z in the pen..they put him there AFTER the pen blew 7 games in the 8 and 9th innings.
no club has made perfect choices in terms of personal but for the last few years the cubs have at least been willing to spend the cash to try to win instead of just packing the house and eating the money.

He's a quality starting pitcher, which we'll see once he gets acclimated. Toss out his first start or two once he's back in the rotation and he's a 3.somthing ERA pitcher the rest of the season if he stays in Chicago.

... aka knee-jerk reaction and panic move. I'd just call it a bad decision.
Why not bench Aramis and D Lee and start Colvin and Nady at the corners? If you're gonna panic, go all out.

kj- i think you are wrong- but we will see. just not often you see what the cubs did and i do think you were correct in your 1st premise. they do want him gone and i see nothing in the "new" carlos that leads me to think he has his temper under control. i think he is very close to a flame out. time will tell.

Fantasy owners' and Cubs fans' expectation for Z does not equal his talent so there is a disconnect. He is better than Silva who has "le essence de pu"
Can't wait to see him walk 8 for the Mets and then beat up on Barajas.

Zambrano's stats on the season including his bad numbers in relief (which I'd hang on Pinella).
3.36 ERA
10-6 W/L
8.2 K/9 (112/123.3)
Same old Zambrano ... not washed up at age 29 after all.

Not bad. I know a few people on these boards who should seek anger management counseling. Maybe they'd have the same turnaround.
