Friday Chat Has Begun

Post by Tom Kessenich » Fri Feb 25, 2005 6:55 am

All right everyone, it's the end of the work week; the weekend is about to begin so let's finish off another very productive NFBC week with a daily chat. As always, the floor is yours so whatever you'd like to talk about, this is the place to do it.

I think he can get more than 500 ABs again. The Angels will make sure to get him on the field plenty this season. Count on it.

One thing going for him is that they dont have another leadoff candidate. However if there are no injuries - 2 of's 1 3b and 1 2b would have to rotate days off (1 per week) - only way he could start 4 out of every 6. could be close.

Dr Tom. :) Griffey is always hurt. But do you think he has any chance of ever putting it together for one more season?

Tom,

We're having an NFBC rookie draft. You have the first pick. How long do you think about the pick before yelling out McPherson's name?

Tom - Do you foresee Percival lasting as closer all year? If not, who will end the season with more saves, him or Urbina in your opinion?

OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

I think Percival will be the guy there all year. As far as next year, well I'm not as confident Percival will hold up the entire season. I really think the Tigers should look to move Urbina.

I don't know about 30-30 this season but Wright could do it at some point. He's the real deal.

I absolutely love Reyes' talent, but until he proves he can stay healthy he's a huge risk. But he has 20-20 potential if he ever played a full season.

OK Tom...

I'm in a 12 team 5x5 roto keeper league (10 keepers)...it's "blind" as to who other teams keep...but most are easy to select their top 8 or 9.

My question is this...I came in 3rd last year by pitching dominance...and failed badly in runs/avg/HR/rbi...so I figuered...rather than try and got balanced going into the draft...I'd lock up pitching and SB strength and try and draft a better team apart from that.

I'm sure to keep..

Randy Johnson

Pedro Martinez

Roger Clemens

Victor Martinez

David Wright

Scott Posednik

J.D. Drew???

and am leaning toward...

Mariano Rivera (not many teams keep closers...maybe Gagne and 3 or 4 others)

Rich Harden

A.J. Burnett (injury risk)

and debating these...not seriously...just for info.

(injury risks here)

Jose Reyes

Larry Walker

Griffy Jr.

Frank Thomas

I have no personal bias toward anyone on my team...but figured my best chance to compete is to keep a bigger amount of pitchers and go from there...Here's my closest cut down...

Randy Johnson

Pedro Martinez

Roger Clemens

Mariano Rivera???

Rich Harden???

A.J. Burnett???

Victor Martinez

Scott Posednik

David Wright

J.D. Drew???

and the close calls are Reyes vs. Rivera/Harden/Burnett/Drew.

On talent, scarcity, and injury risk/reward...without knowing the other teams...(other than most all the studs are gone)...who would you keep?

Thanks!

I'd probably go:

Randy Johnson

Pedro Martinez

Roger Clemens

Victor Martinez

David Wright

Scott Podsednik

J.D. Drew

Mariano Rivera

Rich Harden

Jose Reyes

Ok Tom, McPherson's gone at #1, who do you take second? Burke, Swisher, Reed, Barnes, Closser or none of the above?

Thanks...I agree...I believe Burnett (or someone better/safer) will be there at the #10 slot in our first round...but neither Reyes nor Rivera would last that long.

Gotta turn it in tonight...thanks for the input.

Does anyone else think Coco Crisp will explode this year?
