Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Kendry Morales broke his ankle during Saturday's walkoff celebration. What a tough break for the Angels. Morales suffered the break while jumping into a pile-up at home plate, seconds after delivering a walkoff grand slam against the Mariners. If he requires surgery, which seems likely, chances are the Angels will be without him for several months.

Tough break for any Kendry owners. I don't think I ever remember hearing any player getting hurt like that celebrating a walkoff. Dan?

I wonder if anyone used their Fantasy Sports Insurance on this guy.

Jake Peavy broke a rib in a playoff winning celebration and then struggled mightily in the ensuing start.

After Halladay's pefect game, his teammates seemed to be extra careful celebrating around him.

Glad I didn't draft him...that is rough

That celebration will now forever be more mild and cautious by any team...

I have him on both Main Event teams, eek, but hoping the surgery goes well and Carlos Santana gets called up tomorrow to slot into my DH or something. Always have a plan B.

Do the people on here ripping Kendry not realize this is a game played by human beings, not robots? He just hit a walk-off grand slam, what the hell did you think he was gonna do?

Saying he sucks or is a dickhead just reinforces the myth that those of us who play fantasy sports are a bunch of geeks who care about nothing but stats. I play this game b/c I love it too, however I love BASEBALL even more. I'm not about to get upset w/ a guy for showing emotion...too many pro athletes don't seem to care.

I know it sucks (I have him too!), but it was a freak injury and I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

Some on here boast about being prepared....well, here's you're chance to prove you have a back-up plan.

Now Aramis Ramirez, he's a dickhead! :D

Strange day in baseball....a perfect game won by an unearned run, a pitcher almost getting decapitated by a line drive, and a walkoff GS celebration ending with the freakest of injuries...tough break for Morales owners, but season ending injuries are part of sports and this game. Will be hard to overcome, but not impossible.

A bright spot for those who drafted Posey and patiently waited for two months....I know it's one game, but the kid seems for real.

If you watch the video closely you'll notice 3-4 teammates slapping his head as he is in the air about to hit the plate. E. Aybar and Michael Ryan put some force into their slaps which couldn't of helped the landing for Kendry. All non-intentional of course but probably the last time we see this type of celebration at the plate.

Tough, tough injury for Morales, the Angels, and the fantasy owners. I'm rooting for a healthy recovery because this guy is a beast and fun to watch.

Like most things in life, the walk-off celebration at home plate will run its course.

There will always be the spontaneous eruptions of emotion after winning an important game (see Bobby Thompson). But I think we have just seen the beginning of the end of the contrived “showtime” celebrations (see Prince Fielder).

To my mind, this recent fad of tossing off your helmet between third and home and jumping up and down started in 2004 when David Ortiz hit a walk-off home run off Paul Quantrill of the Yankees during the playoffs. It was real and exciting and genuine. And it might have ended right there. Except the next night Ortiz hit a walk-off single to win the game in the bottom of the 14th. A huge victory in a win-or-go-home game, no doubt. And baseball players being the superstitious group they are, they celebrated the same way. Papi tossed the helmet and they got together for the group jump around.

After those two nights, Ortiz became a nationwide star. And if someone becomes famous for something, you can bet that people will follow in those footsteps. And the footpath will grow, widen and accommodate more people until it becomes worn out, then someone falls and breaks an ankle.

Time to find the new path.

Howie Kendrick hit a walk-off home run today.

His teammates didn't touch him until he stepped on the plate & crossed into the grass.

Then his teammates swarmed him.

Most of us typically place posts coming from the fantasy prospective. And why shouldn't we, that is what we do.

Maybe I'm going over the top with the following question but I am just curious if others look at things in a similar way. Nobody has to be a robot on the ballfield but every night these celebrations seem a bit over the top and in my mind they should and will now be controlled in the future.

Now here is the real world question.

How much money did this preventable injury potentially cost the owner of the Angels? I believe it is well into the millions.

Any thoughts?

Or do you "just don't care"! Which is fine.
