That was so unbelievably gross. The kid was perfect and the ump totally blew it. What a shame.

Absolutely disgusting. Out by 3/4 of a stride.
Who are the good umpires anyway? Jim Wolf, maybe?

in general, i think the umpiring has deteriorated quite a bit the past 2-3 years. it's almost as bad as before their strike.

Wow - watching Gallaraga interview - he just said this about the umpire - who just personally apologized to him - "Hey, nobody's perfect."
I don't think the poor guy realized the irony of his own words. But he was pretty damn classy about the whole thing.
The instant replay guys just got more ammo.

it's interesting that a "scorer" can change a hit to an error or an error to a hit AFTER the game is over, but they can't correct something so obvious like this (i saw the highlight on sports channel). disgusting

I just wish it wasn't Joyce.

A disturbance in the force was caused by last weeks non- perfect perfect game that was allowed to be by poor umpiring. Jim Joyce has returned balance to the force this week with more poor umpiring.

Believe it or not, I was one of the 35 people in the country watching the last few innings of this game.
Lost in the bad call was Austin Jackson's catch to begin the 9th. When the ball was hit, I thought for sure it was going to fall, but Jackson got on his horse and made a fantastic catch....almost on par with DeWayne Wise's from last season.
Speaking of Jackson, is he ever going to slow down this year?

A friend in Cleveland posted this on another blog:
I appreciate the way Joyce handled this too.
What hasn't really been talked about at all is... the Indians were only down 1-0 going into the end of the 8th. 2 out, Jackson on 1st, Damon at the plate. Damon hit in infield grounder and was called safe when he was clearly out. Joyce missed the call. The Indians should of been out of the inning. Next batter (Ordonez) gets a hit... there's a throwing error and the Tigers score 2 runs.
That was the botched call by Joyce, 15 minutes earlier, actually had a much more serious impact on the game itself.
It seems Joyce just had a bad day.

So then maybe the perfect game blown call was a "Make up call"

That would be very sad.
Galarraga will be more remembered now! Only player to ever throw a 28 batter perfect game.

my son was at the game . he called me right after the " CATCH " . what a great play that went almost overlooked because of a bad call . he then called me back saying that the booing of joyce lasted over half a hour . not to many home 1 hitters ever get booed . what a shame .first 28 out perfect game.
