Chone Figgins demotion from second in the lineup to ninth in the lineup prompted some thoughts about some lineup and positional stuff.
Seattle has reminded us that no matter how solid the defense and pitching, offense is still needed to win games. It is curious that Figgins would be moved down th the 9-hole, especially with the .212 hitting Milton Bradley replacing him.
When Mike Sweeney looks good in the middle of a lineup, any lineup, that whole lineup should be questioned.
Adam Lind remains Toronto's third hitter. With 46 hits, he has less than Lyle Overbay.
46 hits looks real good compared to Gordon Beckham's 44 TOTAL BASES, which were mostly accrued in the second spot in the order.
Right now, no catcher has more than 30 rbi. McCann, Mauer, and Martinez hit in the prime spots of their orders, Barajas, Buck, and Olivo.
Except for home runs, Hanley Ramirez is not among the top three in any roto category among even just shortstops.
With Ken Macha not running, except to the pitching mound for pitching changes, Rickey Weeks may be better suited to hit fifth. Weeks stats are comparable, if not better than Chase Utley's.
Deep in the bowels and recesses of Ken Macha's mind, he knows that the best leadoff hitter in baseball plays for the Boston Red Sox.
His name is Kevin Youkilis.
San Francisco gets it. Juan Uribe has been moved up to fourth and fifth in their weak hitting lineup. Uribe leads all shortstops with 37 rbi.
Baltimore has problems everywhere you look. Nick Markakis continues to hit third for them. His rbi totals match that of Judy Podsednik with 18.
The bottom of the Cardinal order has stunk this year. Ryan, Miles, Schumaker, a clydesdale, it doesen't matter...Yadier Molina has scored just 12 runs this year, while driving in 28.
Molina has two homers and six stolen bases.
Back up catchers, Chris Snyder, Ronny Paulino, and Franklin Cervelli, batting out of the 8-hole have as many or more rbi than Joe Mauer.
At the rate 'big time' catchers are hitting this year, a catcher taken in the first four rounds next year is hard to fathom.
