Hey folks, it's time for a new week for the NFBC. We have less than 30 spots remaining and the sign-ups continue to pour in. We announced our Ultimate League draft order today so those folks are now busy making preparations for their draft. And as always we're here for an afternoon chat. So if there is anything on your mind this is the place to talk about it.
So fire away.

Hey Tom,
I'll fire away with a couple of easy ones:
1. Pujols and his plantar fascitis drop him down?
2. Will anyone hit 50+ HRs this year?
Looking forward to another profitable Vegas trip. Hope to see some familiar and new faces out there.
Congratulations on the success of your high stakes contests. Yourself and Greg have made the NFBC (and NFFC) can't miss events.

I don't until I see some signs it is going to affect him.

I doubt it. We saw the high number reach around 45 or so last season and I think it may level off there for a few seasons until the players get used to hitting off the juice.
And thanks for the kind words Hojin. Good luck in Vegas.

Hi Tom.
Do you think Juan Rivera will see 400 ABs this year?

How many people do you think will show up at the draft with a draft list shorter than 450 names?
What will be the earliest round in all the leagues when the first "Already Taken" player is repeated.
How many laptops will get smashed when the batteries die and owners realize there's no power outlets?
How many people are there do you think that don't realize that Gordon Gekko is all part of the NFBC Show. Our own Don Rickles

I'll let someone else draft Pujols #1.
Yeah, I see the top guys at 40+ HRs. Does the drop in HRs make these power hitters more valuable, or the projected SBs kings?
Also, which Met will get drafted first - Matsui, Reyes, or Wright?

As far as the Met, I think you have to get Wright first given his upside. Then I'd go for Reyes, but he's obviously an injury risk.
Depending on your view of SBs and how much of a priority you place on that category those guys could be more valuable than a quality power hitter since there are fewer SB threats than there are HR threats.

At least half but realistically a list of 425 should be enough
What will be the earliest round in all the leagues when the first "Already Taken" player is repeated.
For all 20 leagues, my guess is that some league will have a repeat name called as early as round 5. A better question is will any league NOT have a repeat selection?
How many laptops will get smashed when the batteries die and owners realize there's no power outlets?
None but several will complain that they can't get internet access. Also, the laptop users will constantly be the slowest to pick.

Oops, I better find some more sleepers!

That's a part of the poor planning seen in even the highest of stakes contests.

Tom,
Are you and Greg (and your bosses) happy with the turnout. It's hard to believe that it is likely you will reach 300 before your proposed cut-off date. You need less than two a day to get there. These last few may be hard but 285 is a damn lead pipe lock cicnch and 300 is no longer out of the question.

There's no doubt in our mind we'll hit our 300-team limit. Our goal was to hit it before the sign-up date ended on March 13 (which is a really great day by the way

) and I don't think we'll have any difficulty reaching that goal at all. It speaks volumes to the loyalty you guys have shown us, but also to the quality of our event that so many new folks are coming out to join us in all three cities.
And we know there are some folks lurking here on the boards who haven't signed up yet so all I'll say to them is you better not wait too long because time and open spots are running out.

Which Uber group are you in?

Hojin,
Frank Hennessy asked me to join The Rat Pack last fall and I did. I agree the leagues have few trades and minimal talk but they do stay competitive. More competitive are the leagues comprised only of people in your own uber group and they are extra competitive. I took over a H2H basketball team for a member who essentially dropped out. It's weak and I'm happy for 4-4 weeks. I am playing in H2 in baseball this spring. I go by viper or mikeladd123 pretty much everywhere. Only one other TRP guy is doing the NFBC and this will be his 1st year. RJSquires was TRP but is now LB. He is doing NFBC this season.

Is the 13th the "unofficial" cut-off date?

GG - if you mean you want to write your own stuff, I'm sure many places would want you. But trust me, you don't want to do it.

Greg actually will be heading out to Phoenix later this week to take part in the annual LABR auction. So I'm sure he'll be posting some of the results after all that is done. Those auctions are always one of the most interesting of the pre-season for baseball.
