NFBC Site Improvements Update

Okay, we made a lot of improvements to the site this week and have knocked off most of the requests to IT from my list. I'll update everything we did here and let you know what is still being worked on. If you have a suggestion for something else, feel free to post here and we'll see what we can do. Right now we feel like we've knocked out most of the items we had on the old NFBC site and that was the key. Sorry for the delay.
Here are the new additions to the site:
** Overall Standings now have Period tabs for every NFBC contest. We can now calculate the weekly winners in the NFBC Classic and Tom has created that list and stuck it to the top of the NFBC General Discussion Message Boards. All weekly winners from the past 12 weeks and the next 14 weeks get a $100 gift certificate to FatHeads.com, our NFBC Weekly Winners sponsor. All of the stat categories are sortable by period as well.
** Today we also added Period tabs for each league in the contest and you can now click on League under Standings and use the pulldown tab for each of the weeks in the contest. You can also look at every other league in the contest and use this feature.
** Games Started has now been added to the Free Agent Pitchers listing
** Under free agents, when you sort by stat categories they now appear from max to min. This works perfectly for every category, but unfortunately we can't go min to max under ERA and WHIP yet, so you'll need to click that sort twice to get it from min to max. Not a big problem, but currently we'd rather keep it that way than undermine FAAB by reprogramming that part.
** Dropped players are now part of Waiver History for every transaction. Go to Waiver History now and you'll see the dropped player next to each pickup.
The one item I have left on my list to IT is creating a toggle in Live Scoring for easy access to all of your teams. We are close on that one. I should have an update on that soon.
Hope this helps and thanks for being patient with us.

Okay, there is a Live Scoring toggle already in place, but we need to make sure it works on all browsers and then tell folks how to use it. If you are in Live Scoring for any of your teams, you can then click on the My Teams link within the baseball field photo (it's under My Information and My Settings) and then just click on any of your teams. It will take you right to the Live Scoring for that team. Again, we have to fine-tune it on IE and I even had trouble on Firefox, but the function is there and we'll get it right.
You can do this same process for any page you're in, whether it's League Standings or anything else. It's a nice feature that we need to let everyone know about and of course get working perfectly.

The dropped player next to the pickup is GREAT. Thank you!

Greg, I tried this in both IE and Chrome and unfortunately no luck with the Live Scoring Toggle...I dunno, maybe I'm doing something wrong? Wouldn't be the first time.
Sorry, I hate throwing a very small wet blanket on an outstanding week for the NFBC and their IT department.
The weekly period standings for both the overall & the leagues, the upgrades to the waiver history page, the Games Started, the sortable stats, etc. make this the best week for upgrades since April.
Kudos to all who worked hard to get us here.
Thanks,
Glenn

Greg--nice job by you and your team with the upgrades. Two things that I would love to see are:
1) live sortable stats where you can click on each category to see how you are doing in real time.
2) What is the easiest way to find out what fantasy team someone is on? Is it me or do you have to go to each team roster and scan over the players or is there an easier way. I think it would be a great feature if you add a player to your watch list and are then able to click on the player and see whose fantasy team he is on. I could swear that you had this feature in football this past year where it listed the fantasy team he was on and how he was acquired.
Again, nice job and keep up the good work.

Give credit where credit is due. It took a little patience, but this is great- both reassuring and satisfying to see all of these enhancements implemented. Great job by Greg, Tom, and the entire fanball team for taking the bull by the horns and knocking these out.
Thanks, Fanball!

E I have been asking the same question for months!
I would really like a quick way of finding out the fantasy team that someone is on w/o searching each roster or going to the free agents list. Why can't we have it like the last few years when you search a player it shows you the fantasy team.?????
I'm wasting my time because I get no answer every time I ask!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm wasting my time because I get no answer every time I ask!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I'll ask about this one. They should just show up in Search and give you the team they are on, but I know that isn't set up that way yet. I'll ask if it can be done for baseball and football.

Go to roster grid (Classic version), hit Control-F then type in the name.

There is a Player Search function under the My Teams link in the box in the upper right hand corner that is set up for what you are asking. It now takes you to Owner's Edge, but will be used for what you are requesting down the road.

With all due respect, I think you're missing the point. After using the site for half the season it's obvious that, in baseball terms, "it's time to back up the truck" .... this site needs to be scrapped. It's easily the worst site I've ever used for baseball, both from a functionality and reliability perspective. And certainly not commensurate with the level of competition and best intentions and goodwill of the staff that replies to these posts. This is my one and only post on the subject, and is meant constructively.

Its having no concept of how a fantasy league business works and business in general concerning how much it would cost and waste to "scrap" the site and start over.
Have fun GregDoyle in your imaginary universe.

That's a good catch as I didn't mean to suggest that the site be scrapped mid-season, that certainly would be counter-productive.
I definitely to mean to suggest that it needs to be either seriously upgraded or replaced before the start of next season, with a fully functional try-before-you-buy version available before funds are committed.

I have used Sportsline for the past 10+ years and I think their site is better. Stats are easier to read, there is no load time for free agents, you can quickly find out what player is on whose team, etc. The only feature that Fanball has that I wish Sportsline did is the ability to copy a list of free agents when dropping multiple players--that is a great Fanball feature.
I do see the potential of the website and think that Greg and his crew do a great job. I have no doubt that in a year or so, the NFBC site will be better than Sportsline--they are making constant improvements. However, right now, I would take Sportsline's site. Of course, this is just my opinion.

The Stats League Message Board used to be like adding a "story" on CBS Sportline, so that feature is missed, and somehow we lost the "percent owned" and "percent started" on the set lineup page, but other than that nothing to cry about really.

My entire fantasy baseball career consists of two seasons of neighborhood leagues on Yahoo. The Yahoo site has some features which I miss dearly. I've suggested some of them on these boards. Rather than beat them to death it's time to let it lie and let the chips fall where they may.
At the seasons conclusion a panel of players (from all backgrounds) should get together and suggest continued improvements. This panel should be made of up of more than just folks that have many multiple teams and have played for many years. I have little experience, but know what I like. I am unwilling to spend more than an hour or so on FAAB on Sundays. I know of many ways to make it more effective without having to spend hours on end. These are different suggestions from the many who have played for years and have multiple teams. I have 5 teams and don't spend more than an hour. The results speak for themselves (not very good). This contest should not be about who can afford to spend the most time.
Lets save this conversation for the end of the year and help the NFBC become the best they can be.
