Dan Kenyon Is The Week 14 Classic Winner

Post by Tom Kessenich » Thu Jul 08, 2010 4:07 am

Congratulations to Dan Kenyon, whose team in Chicago League 1 led the way in the NFBC Classic last week with 3,851.5 points.

Mark Teixeira (.429-0-5), Corey Patterson (.417-1-3-3) and Carlos Gonzalez (4 HRs, 9 RBIs and 2 steals) led the way at the plate. Josh Johnson had eight strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA while Huston Street and Kerry Wood combined for four saves to lead the pitching staff.

For finishing first last week, Dan wins a $100 certificate from Fatheads. Congratulations again to Dan and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

Dan Kenyon Is The Week 14 Classic Winner

Post by Tom Kessenich » Thu Jul 08, 2010 5:55 am

Dan Kenyon is no stranger to success in the NFBC. With a pair of Top 5 overall finishes under his belt – including being second overall in 2005 – Kenyon knows how to best navigate the often treacherous NFBC waters in pursuit of league success.

So it’s no surprise that once again Kenyon is making a run in the Classic event. And last week, no team in the field was better.

Kenyon’s team in Chicago League 1 led the way in the NFBC Classic last week with 3,851.5 points.

Kenyon was one of the owners who took part in both weekends of the Classic event this year. He admitted he was torn on whether to pursue the same players in the second weekend or try a different approach.

“As usual, the flow of the draft dictated my decision as most of the players I had picked in St. Louis the week before were gone in Chicago,” he said. “It worked out well in the end. My first pick – Mark Teixeira – hasn’t had a banner yeaer but overpicking Ryan Zimmerman in the second round has worked out well.

“My staff is led by Jon Lester and Josh Johnson and when/if Brett Anderson recovers, prospects look good for a second-half run. Jaime Garcia is on just about all of my NFBC teams. Chris Young and Rickie Weeks were good later picks and chose to stay healthy and play to their potential.”

The competition in Kenyon’s league is fierce but he said one of the joys of drafting in the Windy City was getting a chance to put a face with many of the message board names he had been conversing with.

“Drafting in Chicago was like meeting a bunch of friends for the first time,” he said. “By name, I already knew half the league. They really are a great bunch of fellows. A shoutout to Russel Wyatt, who cracked me up with his assertive calling of names during our draft. You’d have thought he was getting Albert Pujols with every pick.

“Also, I am part of a trio with Andy Nolan and Kent Stermon, fellow NFBCers. We keep in contact even during the offseason comparing notes and giving each other our takes on anything fantasy related.

“The NFBC is my No. 1 hobby. While other folks my age are gardening or square dancing, I prefer to master this game. I know it can’t be done but it is fun trying. If I am not studying, listening or watching baseball, I am usually on the Message Boards relating some godforsaken information that nobody really wants to know about. But it’s fun for me and I appreciate the NFBC for the forum and all the good friends I’ve made there.”

The 55-year-old Kenyon lives with his wife Mitzi in Grand Junction, Colorado. They have two children and two grandchildren.

“If I win the overall (title), the grandkids already have three huge Lego sets in their sites,” he said. “The Fathead prize for winning the weekly prize is already ticketed to my son-in-law. He is a staff sergeant in the Marines.

“He has spent as much time of his 12 years in the service being deployed as he has spent time at home with his family. I respect him for fighting for our country and pity him for being a Cowboys fan. Just joking, Clint.”

For finishing first last week, Dan wins a $100 certificate from Fatheads.

Thanks everybody.

A great write up, Tom.

It's great that the NFBC has a weekly prize and a lot of folks look at that race within the race, I got congrats before I knew I had even won.

Great idea, Greg.

It still makes me smile, Russel.

Imagine, being in the 30th round of a draft and hearing an authoritive "Kyle Farnsworth!!!" like it was Mariano Rivera having slipped 25 rounds. Great Stuff.

I know it is tough enough to see my name on the Boards so much as it is without having to read this thread too!! :D

Again, thanks everyone.

Dan The Man! Great job!! I know you were a fellow Carlos Gonzalez fan. May he lead us to the promised land in the 2nd half.

Again, keep up the great work!

DoBo is now DaMan!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I don't know Dan and he doesn't know me. But, a writeup on him without a "Bambi Woods" reference is incomplete.

Congrats on the nice week!

As of now, I do look Las Vegas bound next year, Lindy, and love the IP buffet...but then again, like Homer Simpson...I love ANY buffet...sigh

Oh no, Bob, I'm no rookie :D , highest team from this year pays, right? And, as of now, that would be a certain postman, currently on the dl

Or do I have it wrong?

With you heavy hitters though, I may have to bring backup in Kent and Andy

Unlike my players Dan, and sadly, I'll be coming off the DL before the break. I also think bringing the brain trust is a great idea. The odds of my not having to pay for this can only get better
