Who is YOUR MVFP in the first half?

Three days without real baseball has me reflecting on the first half for my teams. I thought it would be fun for us to pat ourselves on the back by handing out our own midseason Most Valuable Fantasy Player awards. Who are yours? Use your own criteria, they're your teams after all!

I'll hand out a hitter and pitcher award. I have several teams, so players on multiple squads get bumped up for me, as do those taken later in the draft.

Hitter - This one was easy for me. I placed a big bet on Magglio Ordonez before the season, selecting him to four teams in the later rounds of double plays. I thought he could provide some decent BA help that late, with a few counting stats. The BA has been as expected, but the counting stats have far exceeded my predictions as he is on pace for 100+ runs, 20+ bombs, and 100+ RBI.

Pitcher - This one came down to the wire, and winning by a nose is Colby Lewis. He's not present on my best team, but he has been an ace for three other teams. Coming into the season I expected him to provide serviceable ratios for a pitcher in Texas, along with his share of wins playing for a strong offensive club. I did not expect the ratios to be quite this good, and the 105 strikeouts are about a third more than I thought were coming out of a later round pick.

Thank you to these players for putting me in a position to possibly cash a check at the end of the season. Who are your most valuable players so far?

I was such a believer in Colby Lewis back in January! Love what he's done this year.

I'm not going to say M Cabrera or someone like that. It has to be a player that I drafted late who has returned early-rd value. With my 6 teams, I only picked players I have on multiple teams:

I have multiple teams too so it's hard but overall, my pitcher is:

Colby Lewis

Honorable mention: M Latos - can you say NL Cy Young?

Hitters:

1st half MVP: Hands down, Vladi Guererro - steal around rd 10.

Honorable mention: A Huff. 23rd or so and what a season. I won't deny this... I have Huff on 2 teams and never planned to be "stuck" with him. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

M. Cabrera belongs in the conversation. Best hitter in the game this year and has a legit shot at the TRIPLE CROWN.

I have him on no teams and am rooting for him to do it. What I wouldn't give to my first round picks (or any pick) back for a shot at him !!!!!

All depends how you define your MVP. I drafted Cabrera in the first round of the main without any doubt and high expectations. Vladi 10 rds later is putting up comparable numbers. That's big-time value 10 rds later.

M Cabrera: .346 avg, 22 HR, 77 RBI, 64 runs

V Guerrero: .319 avg, 20 HR, 75 RBI, 55 runs

Got Cano in the 4th round and there is no doubt that he is my best hitter.

Pitching..has to go to Pettite who i got after the 20th round.

While he's slowing down a bit, Alex Rios has been a 5-cat beast for people. Also for Round 1-10 values are Jimenez, Cargo, Hamilton, and Cano.

There are so many late rounders, like Phil Hughes, Ricky Romero, Jose Bautista, Scott Rolen, Mat Latos, C.J. Wilson, Jaime Garcia, Cahill, Colby Lewis, Gardner, Chris Young, Corey Hart, Neftali Feliz, Jon Rauch, Shaun Marcum, and Clayton Richard.

If a lot of those names sound familiar to you, you are probably doing well. Nice job.

Batter - Certainly Votto has been racked up the stats for my team, but as a 2nd rounder, I expected that. I would say my team MVP from the first half came from my 4th/5th OFer type with 281 AB, 7 steals, 15 HR, .2811 BA, and 45/46 R/RBI out of my 17th round. Josh Willingham. Would have considered Victorino, but his BA is only about .250.

Pitcher - Shields and Garza came out of the gate like they were going to be contenders, but both have been in "correction" mode for a month. Jared Weaver has been pitching like an Ace all year with a 3.198 ERA, 1.083 WHIP, 137 K's in 121 IP. He only has 8 wins, but that is really out of his control sometimes. Honorable mention to John Danks who also has awesome stats, but with only 86 K's.

Two guys that I was very high on who both slipped much further in drafts than they should have and are on a few of my teams are: Roy Oswalt and Alex Rios. Both have been huge for me so far. In terms of FAAB pickups, Torres and Pagan have made a big impact as 5 cat players and Niese, Hammel, and Gorzelanny look like very solid starters for the rest of the season.

In 3 leagues Have Vlad in all 3 who could MVP in AL this year. On the other end I really thought J Upton was going to be great this year Have him in all 3 as well Used 1st round pick on him where Rios is having a great year and was my drafted later. In thing my best value pick was J Gomes in 30th round Good luck all
